Hi,
Out of curiousity, could anyone tell me if negative HIV screening is on SGU's accepted student form? Just curious to see how different island schools screen applicants. For example, St. Martin (AUC) requires HIV screening to admitted students and if positive, will allow you to attend but with monitoring from the local health dept, whereas Nevis (MUA) will not allow positive students attend school and SABA does not seem to screen for HIV at all, aside from regular immuno, vaccinations etc. Just curious where Grenada (SGU) stands on the issue..thanks!

unless its changed, no there is no requirement for HIV testing, either when on the island or in clinicals.

wouldn't it be considered discrimination to not accept someone based on their HIV standing? Wasn't there a movie about this sort of thing in the late 80's early 90's?

while i don't think HIV status comes under the equal opportunity laws, you are applying a US law to foreign countries. If Grenadian immigration laws requires HIV testing, then i imagine that sgu would have to follow it.

Right, that's the same reasoning I took. However, MUA admissions said that because they conduct class on Nevis, they have to follow suit by their government law. It's not that you cannot be accepted, you just cannot attend school if you are found to be HIV positive, lol. I was just curious to Grenadian law, however it seems from students that have responded so far, SGU does not ask for an HIV test for accepted students, which leads me to beleive there is nothing in Grenadian law that prohibits HIV positive students from attending the island.

I didn't have to take an HIV test to get in. I kind of feel that you have bigger problems than trying to get into med school if you have HIV.
