Hey all,

Just wanted to ask anyone on the island already if they know or have any idea of which dorm are the first term Aug 07 students being housed in? Also, another question I had is, do any of you guys know the style of the housing? Is it 2 students to a room sharing a kitchen and bathroom? I know I should call, but its 12:43am and I was curious lol...but I will try to call, thanks a lot all, and good luck for your guys exams..

well there might actually be some changes to that.. depending on how many 4th termers decide to stay in GND and how many will need on campus housing. The Chancellor said that those student have priority over the incoming class. Thus if most of the class choose to stay in GND than you might have 3 or even 4 people to a room. But yes Jaywalk is correct 1st termers are housed in SD1 and 2. and those are double rooms (meaning you share a room) and you have a kitchenette and bathroom, they're on the small side and most of the furniture can't be moved because it's attached to the wall.

My 4th term friend who decided to stay in GND was not able to get on campus housing (she had on campus in St. Vincent). However, she was able to find a place to stay off campus today.

Damn...I did hear about that RussianJo, but I did not think that it would be taking effect so soon. I understand the situation, but man o man, I would not like to live 3 or 4 in a small room lol. I guess I will try giving them a call today. Thnk guys

Ok guys, just gave them a call and basically what they said is that students in the first term will be housed in one of the superdorms, the rooms are double kitchennette, with a stove, microwave, bathroom and 2 people per room. I was told that the students saying in GND for 5th and 6th term would not affect this years 1st term students as they still have housing in Gand Anse (Not sure if im mixing the name up) I beleive? which was not there last year? So anyway thats that, and for students wonderning the size of the beds so that they can get bed sheets etc. its single twin bed; standard size NOT long. thats what I was told. Kk take care all.

yea, the chancellor did mention of perhaps re-opening up GA one more time, as for which term gets GA, i have no idea

but i think it is more feasible to put 4 students in a room in GA rooms rather in SD rooms (that is what they are doing now for the 5/6 termers who came back to gnd). no way you can fit 4 into a SDroom. you can barely fit 2. so if there will be a 4 1st termers in a room, my guess would that GA goes to the 1st termers in august

Isn't there a new superdorm coming on line soon? I remember reading about a new 700 seat lecture hall, but not sure about the superdorm.

just curious- are the students who are in gnd who are now sharing a room with a returning 6th termer getting money BACK from housing? I mean if they had a single and now are in a double- is their housing cost cut in half for these weeks?
Ishie- didn't you say you have a new roommate? housing giving you money back?

Thanks jaywalk. Do you know how many students will be able to live on the True Blue campus when sd5 is finished? They must be able to offer oncampus housing to almost anyone who wants to live there.

I doubt she had to pay extra for her single. I am in SD3 now and I only have 1 roommate and I just paid for my room, I didn't have to pay double the price just because the school couldn't find anyone to fill that room.
I think the same thing goes for her, although she's in SD1 or SD2.. I am sure that if she had to pay double the price so that she could have an SD single than she would still have the single, and no one would move in with her or she would get some money back for the inconvenience.

I had a roommate (from this board actually) who scored a single room and moved out, so I had my own room, but as a double with an extra bed.

I'm currently sharing with a 6th termer who came back and is really cool. The school isn't compensating me or anything, but since I'm in a double and was originally intended to have a roommate the whole term, I wouldn't expect them to. They did offer the last months housing back if I shared with another 1st termer with one of us giving up our current location, but that didn't work out.

Having a single is nice, of course, and I'm getting my own place for next term because the mental and physical space is nice, but so far, I've actually been really lucky in both my roommates.

well that makes sense since you just lucked out and got a single for the double rate, but RJ the single rate in the SDs 1 and 2 DO cost twice as much and if a person who has a true single, they paid probably ~5000US for the single- now if they suddenly become a double, do they get some of their money back?

Ah, I see what you mean... and I only had the single for a week, so I think when something happens like your roommate moves out, takes a leave of absence, or drops, you pay the same rate but someone can move in with you at any time...

I don't know that students that actually *paid* for a single have to get new roommates. I would imagine not. I believe most of the St. Vincent people are at Grand Anse, with only a few on main campus, and there are enough people that left, moved off campus, or got a single to accommodate. Can't say for certain or anything though.

yeah I know that, I meant to say that she just got lucky and that's why she had a single. I would assume if you paid for the single, i.e. paid twice as much as it costs to live in SD1/2, than I doubt they would make that into a double. It's like buying an extra air plane ticket for the seat next to yours so that you have more space. They can't just place someone else in there unless you agree to it, in which case I would assume that they compensate you in some kind of way.

i hope they give all the whining 4th termers the 3-4 people per room or make them live off campus for 5/6 term.

1st termers should get to live in SD1 or 2.
