no i seriously doubt that sgu would allow this- it opens that particular class to questions for licensure and could cast doubt on sgu as a legit school. At best 5/6 th would be in gnd, but you are not going to be able to it from the states

yea, most licensing board requires that you do 2 yrs of your medical study at the site of the school. however im not sure how ross can do it.

i will be happy doing 5/6 in grenada. has that become official or is it still under consideration for future terms?

its an option for the current 4th term, however i dont think the chancellor knows for sure what will happen for future terms

i think the fact that SGU has made taking term 5/6 in gnd an option for this class, is a credit to SGU. that was relatively quick handling of the escalating situation

that is why the GSP program has to do their 5/6 term in GND, which was mentioned by the chancellor at his mtg last friday. but like i said, i dont know the full legality issues, as i know ross does their at miami. but hey if we can do it back in US, i am all for it, but if spending 18 weeks prematurely in the US will cause me potential licensing problems in the future, i will tough it out for 18 more weeks

well, to be honest, i wonder the same thing- it would be a reason i would be a bit wary of being the guinea pigs for this program.

The only thing i can think of is that since both GND and SVG are commonwealth nations that there may be some sort of reciporcity with the UK and the fact that the school holds charters for both GND and SVG, that there is an allowance for them to hold classes in the UK.

first of all no 5th/6th terms are not going to be held in the US. That was never an option, and most likely never will be. In fact that wasn't even mentioned at the meeting on friday. The only options we have are to stay in GND or go to SVG. I am pretty sure those will be the two options from now on, and it's not just an option for the current 4th term. They're spending all this time and money to hire more faculty and set up clinical spots in GND so I doubt they will simply get rid of this program as an option for future terms.

That's cause they're affiliated with Barry University.

no silly, WE are affliated with Barry!!!

But to answer your question, about Ross's Miami term (and any Rossie out there, please correct me), I believe it is considered to be part of there clinical program, not basic sciences- they do things similar to our CS and ACS course-they are not integrated into their time on the island, as well as a Step I review course, and clinical rotations through Larkin Hospital. All of Ross's basic science classes are completed on the island.

sgu integrates some clinical aspects as you go along, from interview skills in 1st and 2nd term (though, really, if you can't talk to a person....), to PD in 4th term, to finally hospital rotations in 5/6th term, and you still have basic science classes in the last term on the islands- those cannot be taught in the US without ramifications.

and, to be honest, if less time on the island with a miami term is what you wanted, then you should have look a little harder at ross (though if you go to the ross forum, many of them are not so happy with the miami term and some would prefer to do it in Dominica!!- guess the grass is always greener....)
