what hospitals do the clinicals take place and exactly which states can graduates not attain residency?

OttawaMed
04-19-2007, 05:53 PM
you cant do residency in OK, CA,NM,TX,ID and VT. all other you can, but if you do residency in NY or FL you cant get licensed there after.

clinicals are done in ACGME hospitals

OttawaMed you hit the nail right on the head but here are some things that are not entirely true.

First off if you goto the WHO website then you will see it clearly stated that WHO is not a recognizing body and hold no power thus WHO is something not to worry about if you want to practice in the states. Secondly, You can get licensing in NY, FL, and even Tx because it is done on a case by case situation no matter what Caribbean Medschool you graduate from. Lastly, atm the school has more clinical spots then students so there is really no need to go to GMCgroup for help.

very true, but the W.H.O is needed if we want to go back to india or pakistan or middle east one day

Thank you Ottawa....and doc, are you saying that I can get licensed basically in any state? If not which states don't license ASUM students?

OttawaMed

Ca, Nm, Vt, Id, Ok.

OttawaMed

W.H.O. is very important for canada, the school is taking the steps to get W.H.O. which will happen sooner then later.

also no wonder the students from this school dont use this forum, the school offers there own forum.

they have over 20 clinical sites over USA and and couple in canada.

Yes that is true that the school does offer its own forum! and here is the thing from WHO:

Health workforce

World directory of medical schools
The WHO Department of Human Resources for Health (HRH) has undertaken discussions and preliminary agreement with the University of Copenhagen, Denmark, concerning the establishment of a Global database of health professions educational institutions that will replace the current World Directory of Medical Schools. WHO has been planning to replace the World Directory of Medical School to include other academic health institutions (schools of dentistry, nursing, midwifery, pharmacy, public health, and rehabilitation specialist).
The University of Copenhagen, will start (2007) with the provision of information through this new Database. The Database will include information related to schools' accreditation, number of admissions, students, graduates, Faculty, educational resources, address, national official recognition.
An announcement will be published on the WHO/HRH website to the effect that from now on the World Directory of Medical Schools has been changed to a database and that the University of Copenhagen will run it in collaboration with WHO, the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME), the Foundation for the Advancement of International Medical Education and Research (FAIMER), International Pharmaceutical Federation and other partners. A link to the website of the database will be provided.
WHO will continue collecting and analysing relevant statistical information on health professions education and institutions based on specific needs using all data sources and making information available through the Global Health Workforce Atlas. Countries and schools interested to include their institutions in the database will provide their information to the University of Copenhagen.
In the meantime, readers are reminded that WHO has no authority to grant any form of recognition or accreditation to schools of medicine or other training institutions. Such a procedure remains the exclusive prerogative of the national government concerned.

If you go to the MCC website it clearly states that WHO is not required for Canada - the school has to either be WHO or IMED and All Saints is listed in IMED - I have spoken with the MCC personally regarding this issue as it was obviously a concern for me and they told me the exact same thing and stated that All Saints University in particular is O.K.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions

I know alot of people right now are using VoipCheap - FREE CALLS to regular phones over the internet! (http://www.voipcheap.com) and www.freeinternetcalls.com (http://www.freeinternetcalls.com) - both of these make it so you can call the US and Canada mobile and landlines for free from your computer. My family can't even tell the difference that it is online and not a real phone. I think if you go to the website you actually get alot of countries for free. This would be of course valid for any island as long as you have internet.

I am not sure all of them, but I do know that we have every clinical there is in Texas. My father is a urologist, who set us up with one of everything. We are also allowed to get into residencies in Texas, I do know that much,

We are also allowed to get into residencies in Texas, I do know that much,You know I find this a bit difficult as that only Three Island schools are allowed past Texas medical board they are SGU, Ross and AUC. If you do even one core rotation that is not greenbook you will not be allowed to practice in Texas. Also rotations set up by a family member are disallowed by all states - you have to go thru the correct agency and approval system. Do your research!

Hi I am new to all of this, but I am trying to find out whether it is possible to come back to Canada (Toronto specifically) to do clinical rotations, also is it difficult to do so?

Hey Manroop,

Dr. H claims that there are 5 doctors willing to take students in Toronto.
I don't know about 5; I will find out.
You can do clinicals in Canada. I believe MCC allows only 8 weeks.
Just make sure you do electives and not cores. Also do all your cores in ACGME hospitals (not the same as greenbook).
I know the sites in Chicago are ACGME hospitals, the ones in Indiana also.
I know of one student doing a rotation in Toronto at the moment.
Contact the Head office in New Jersey and ask the Dean of Clinicals if he can coordinate a site for you in Toronto.

Hope this helps
good day

Hello everyone.
I have come across a catch in many of the states' policies for licensure. If you are a highschool student, going directly into Pre-med studies, even after having completed your MD, I think many states do not issue a license if you do not have an undergrad/bachelor's degree/atleast 2 years of undergradute work/60-90 college credits or something along those lines. I am from Toronto and I am looking in coming to All Saints in September 2009. I have gone through the viewbook and I think it's a great thing that All Saints offers a B.Sc degree (if you have completed the Pre-med and basic sciences program, and have some additional lab work and a dissertation). I called up the administration yesterday, and they had told me that about 20 states don't abide by that rule. If someone has already looked into the state policies and doesn't mind sharing their research with us, I would really appreciate it if I could get the names of the states that don't need the undergrad and also links to their documentation certifying their requirements (being the lazy person I am)
I also have some other questions regarding admissions into All Saints:
1) Our school year ends here in June of each year. When is a good time to apply? (here, students apply for university in December, before the Semester 1 exams that are held in the end of January)
2) What is the significance of having a WHO listing? Does it have anything to do with being eligible to sit for licensing examinations in all common-wealth countries? (Don't remember where I got that from)
3) Is a WHO listing necessary to get licensure in India?
4) Are Indian rotations easily available? Which hospitals do they currently conduct them in?

Please fill me in on my queries. More questions coming up as I try to recall them again (sigh).
Thank you.

Hey there stopex, I'll be heading to all saints in may as well. Let me start by giving you the link to the survey conducted on All Saints Aruba:

Results: All Saints University of Medicine Aruba - Medical School Reviews - ValueMD Medical Schools Forum (http://www.premed.valuemd.com/surveys.php?do=sumresults&sid=2486)

We don't know who took the survey or if they were even students at ASUM but its there for you to read.

On their site, they state that you can get scholarship merits based on your semester performance (up to 20% I think).
