Hello..
I want to find out how many states does st. martinus university has approval for licensure? also, what are the guarantees for residency after graduation. the reason why I ask is because the better a school prepares student for USMLE, the better the scores considering the student will put in a hundred percent of sincere effort. And, as we are all quite aware that each year for 26,000 residency positions there are USA applicants 16,000, and foreign graduates of about 20,000, out of which only about 19,000 get positions. We cannot forget the schools Ross, saba, etc .
also, pass rate is important, but the individual score is also important, for example..... passing usmle step one with a low score vs passing a usmle with a score of +200 . that makes a difference too. the program directors for residency matching do consider schools such as ross, sgu first. dont they? so, what are my chances of doing well if I graduate from your university?
Please give me an unbiased opinion. i would appreciate your response.
thank you,
( school official's response will be appreciated).

approvals= none so far
but you should be ok for licensure in 30+ easy states but then again you cant be 100% sure. there is no guaranted residency unless ur from mars. PD will def. prefer ross, sgu, auc and to some extent saba. look at st. matthews or aua residency list as it should give u some idea of what type of residencies newer school gets. work hard, dont aim for derma, ortho at top places and realistically you should be fine.

If you are in the US they have a telephone number on their website. Much faster.

I might be able to help you with this.
You have to check with the different states for the requirements to gain licensure with them. I am from Mn and so I looked at the state requirements and called them to make sure.. So long as I pass USMLE 1, 2 and 3 I can practice in Mn and be fully licensed. The only stipulations are that the school must be recognized by the WHO and because it is a foreign school I must wait till the 2nd year of residency to take the USMLE 3. (no big deal because most people take it in their 3rd year of residency) though if I were an American graduate I could theoretically take it the 1st year of residency. Most states are like this but California, Texas, and Florida are the ones that will give you trouble.

I should clarify that the FSMB (Federal State Licensing Board) is the proctor of the USMLE where in contrast the ECFMG is the proctor of the USMLE 1, and 2.

All of the information would be available on the specific states medical licensing rules. Anybody can take step 3 after they have taken 1 and 2 but you have to abide by the individual state rules to do so and practice in that state.
Here is the website with all the info for Mn
Minnesota BMP : Home (http://www.state.mn.us/portal/mn/jsp/home.do?agency=BMP)
As for florida this is the best I could come up with.
Applicant Information - Medicine, Florida Board of (http://www.doh.state.fl.us/mqa/medical/me_applicant.html)
Minnesota spells it out clearly, though you may want to call The Florida Board of Medical Practice, if thats where you want to go.

Now that I read grobbles post I see they spell it out there very nicely, they only fail to define what an international medical graduate is. I would venture to guess that it is one that is listed in the WHO. I am told that St Martinus is listed in the WHO.
A good resource for IMGs is :

Check and see, each state has their own definition of an IMG if youre looking at the FSMB web site.

Check and see, each state has their own definition of an IMG if youre looking at the FSMB web site.If you do a search you will find the only states that present issues to FMG/IMG's are California and the states that may use the Ca approval list - Kansas has a 15 year rule on schools, Texas, New York has rules and approvals but getting a license there is easy if you follow their rules. General newer schools get a New York site visit. After they get New York approval and get bigger then they invite Ca for a site visit. This can go seriously wrong (for SMU it did). Saba waited and got the visit and have an effective dated approval. Ross, AUC and SGU are approved in all 50 states due to being over 25 years old and also having the site visits from NY and Ca. It is best to have an attorney handy for any body who is an IMG/FMG when the times comes to make sure your i's are dotted and t's crossed. Just my .02s. You have spent four years and lots of money - what is another $500 to $2,000 to have legal boy there to make sure things go right....
