hi all,
I recently passed the step 1 with a 92..took the exam on Jan 26th. Thanks to all of you for your good wishes and support. You guys were really very helpful and the information and support I got from here was unequalled.
My experience of the step-
I had prepared long and hard and I think a bit too long(had I taken the damn step a bit earlier, I would have done better). The exam is nothing like you've ever seen before. The Q bank is like a baby in front of it.I was scoring 78-80 in Q Bank and about the same in NMS. I was expecting questions of the same level of difficulty in the real thing, but to my surprise, I was totally bummed after the first block, it was the most god-forsaken terrible, satanic thing I had seen in my whole miserable life. I kinda panicked and all the time was hoping for an easier block, but NOOOOOOOOO guess that was too much to ask. I felt kiinda cheated. Anyways, I got tons of behavioral qs, (in total, easily 60-70), which was the worst part for me...in my score report, I have performed less than borderline in that area, though the rest is in the higher range. There was tons of Patho as well...and the genetics and mol.bio were well represented as well. I had about 35 Qs on Neuroanat and lesions in the brain etc. Guys, know your neuro very well. In general, besides the above kinda unexpected thingies(like 70 qs in beh.sci i.e.about 10 per block....which I was not expecting) every area was well represented. If I had the normal amount of Qs from beh.sci...say 35-40, I could ahve gone over the 95 mark....but that's just being silly.
After the exam, I was in shock for about 2 days....and thought I was not gonna make it. I did not remember many Qs, only the ones that I did wrong.....it was a nightmare. I was relieved 3 days ago when the oasis said I had passed.
I guess in general, we need to know everything to do well on this exam....but the important things are path, beh.sci, neuro (i.e. most represented on my exam...obviously other people would have different experiences).
Once again, Thanks all for your support and keep up the good work.
Now there are other demons to take care of step2 and the HIB Cap.

well done!
i do have one question though...u say that u thought the exam was going really badly while u were doing it? what exactly made u feel that way, i mean was it the insane amt of behav questions on it or was it just the way they would present the questions for all subjects?
also while doing the exam did u feel the questions were doable or did u feel that even the patho, anat, biochem, etc (except behav) questions were very tough and confusing?
ure experience has sort of scared me in a way..cuz i think the worst feeling is when u really have no idea how uve done, and i can imagine how tough it mustve been for u waiting to get ure score report. anywway i just wanted to know what exactly about the exam made u feel that it was going really badly.
waiting forure reply...take care and good luck.

wow, 60-70 behavioral Q's! I've never heard of there being that many. Usual #'s are under 10 Q's total. I wonder how many different step 1's there are?
