It appears that the rumors have some truth. The above link is to the company that owns SMU. Check the Saba forum on VMD. I hear that it was MUA-Nevis and Saba that were purchased by Equinox.

it is a usual practice for investors to acquire/merge/expand more business entities after they profited from the current business to some extent.
furthermore, it is another normal practice to acquire certain "line of business" to "compensate" what they are missing in the current business. in other words, SABA has many states exposures/licensures and Cali part (possibly Texas as well), which SMU currently does not have. SABA is quite well known in the west coast, so it does make sense for the Equinox-our investors to have SABA/MUA under their porfolios managements. besides solving some licensures issues, many students or their parents could not afford to paying SMU tuition; therefore, they get to choose to go for less expensive ones to achieve their dreams. let me give a anology: it is like going to McDonald, where it sells BIG MAC vs. Dollar Menu to entertain various sections of "clients" in the market.
it is a sensible, strategic move. i have seen these for decades, so it is NOT a surprise to me. nevertheless, it should be a great move for SMU & SABA/MUA. therefore, we will exchange teachers and entertain/enlarge student body in long run. it can be viewed as a intermittent solution; however, i personally do see it that way from my business experiences.
i just have some questions about the tuition part, as SABA/MUA is less costly than SMU. so, how is this going to be integrated and make sensible for all students?..remains to be unfolded...i have already have some ides how/why they are doing this...but, i cannot say it, as it is a strategic move...at the end, i hope to benefit from this endeavor!!! we shall see!
lastly, it only can help us and many in a long haul!!! IF THIS IS ALL TRUE, NOT A RUMOR, then let's be happy and don't worry! i want the freedom of going from the west to the east or vice versa! don't you?

i want the freedom of going from the west to the east or vice versa! don't you?Just curious; are you implying that because Equinox Capital has purchased SABA/MUA that their accreditations (i.e. Cali, etc.) will also apply to us at SMU ?
I don't believe this is the case. Each individual school needs to attain their own state accreditations, etc. There is no umbrella network for state accreditations, unless I am misinformed.
I'm still unsure how this new acquisition by Equinox Capital will benefit us at SMU!
got milk?

it won't benefit us much at all. we still won't have the remaining 8 states' licensure approvals.
it's only meant to put more $$$ into equinox's pockets.

so is there going to be some type of formal announcement? It is known that SABA and MUA are sister school, so will SMU be mentioned along side.
Maybe SABA and MUA will now require the MCAT to keep policies consistant.
These schools are on very different islands, I wonder how applicants are going to view this move.
