i only see about 2 or 3 cute girls lol...kinda scared to go to SMU now ive had more than a few guys at SMU say that there aren't many pretty girls at their school so when there are, they will try hit on them like crazy so i better be careful....haha...is this true? :( thats one of the reasons why i didnt want to go to the med school in mexico...i was afraid it was going to get whistled at and hounded down everywhere i went...so feeling safe and comftorable is pretty important to me (my dad and older brother aren't here to save me ha!) Heyyy, i think i would make a pretty cute Kaibo girl too! How do i join? lol

I'm sorry to say, but yes, it's VERY true. One cute girl definitely gets a lot of attention. Even the not-so cute girl gets a TON of attention.
It's best to definitely stay away from that drama in medical school. Dating a classmate is one of the worst things you can do. It's worked for only a few that I know, while the others greatly regreted it.

What are you talking about? I see none!!

I think some people are so full of themselves thinking that they are all that and a bag of chips...
If your only worry is been hit on, med or any other school is not for you. Your grades and studying should be the number one priority, but hey what do I know. Some people go to med school because they want to help people, others, go to school to become popular....

IT IS!!! Trust me I would not be sacrificing by going all the way out there, paying tons of money...to screw up and not be focused on what I am there for. I have already done it once (in college, that's why we are all in the carribean route to begin with), nobody has to tell me twice lol! Daddy and mommy aren't funding my education this time, so alot more responsiblity and maturity on my part has to come with that.

Sorry I didn't put enough "lol's" in my first post for this thread....if you ever meet me you will find out I am not arrogant or conceited at all...not trying to win popularity haha....I was mostly joking and being sarcastic but I see some people take offense to it  I would like to get involved some way or another on the island, so I kindof wasn't joking about being one of those girls...looks like fun anyway. I can't spend ALL day in my room studying!

And once again, I am not going on the island to date anybody. Please remember that! I AM going to get through my basic sciences as quickly and efficiently as possible, and to meet other medical students that share the same interests. I expect a very supportive type of environment from both faculty and students....at least that's the impression that SMU gives me. As far as getting hit on....trust me it happens almost every time I walk out of the house (I do live in the Oakland area lol, I'm sure ppl on the island might have a little more respect that ppl here ), so I kindof got used to being mute to all that....I just didn't know how bad it was out there and if I should prepare myself mentally for it now (as I am trying to do everything else, like classes etc). I've been getting tips and advice on how to live and survive on the island...and thought that factor shouldn't be ignored since it is something I will have to face everyday as well.

By the way, what exactly are the standards on value md and the TOS violations? Someone please PM me about this or just reply. Thanks! :D

Huh? I think you are confused. lol. I am not asking for anything....lol....just talk to me like any regular person would do and most importantly be yourself....I can def see through lies and fronts lol, it's hard to know who to trust nowadays and I'm sure many will agree with me on that one.

If you have any idea on how to talk to women with respect there should be no problem. I'm sure every woman would appreciate that, not just me!

You know what it is, I think everyone just needs to lighten up on here. People say that being from Cali I am going to think everybody else is wierd lol, honestly I haven't really been outside of Cali other than Idaho and Utah (which don't count really ha)...so maybe I should be careful about the words I post.

I know this is value md and every post/thread should be about a serious topic, but I also thought coming on here would provide me with some good insight from others that go here or have gone here. Now I see that people are just really uptight or get extremely offended one way or another, or look at me as full of myself? lol. i really just wanted to get a straight up answer as to how men treat women there on the island and if there was anything I can join as far as maybe a dance club (since dancing is one of my passions) or a gym membership or something...just to keep me sane...but I'll look elsewhere...maybe facebook or something. Thanks everyone for your help??

If you end up with someone.. great.. but, I would try to stay away from that..

Get here.. study.... get out.. find your significant other elsewhere...

i am not on here to try to convince people that i am going to medical school for the right reasons, i know why i am going. i went to college 5 hours away from my parents and ive only been living under their roof for about two months since i graduated. no point in getting my own place if im leaving to med school anyway. trying to suck it up now but after living on your own for so long and coming back to live with parents after all that time, you cant do it for very long before wanting to get out again. drjj if you really want to know about my whole life story since you know nothing about me and have the complete wrong perception of me....pm me and ill be happy to fill u in on things lol. i think you should spend more time focusing on what you are for...which is to study and get your life together...and not try to come up with reasons to put another person down when you know absolutely nothing about them. people like you who take things way too seriously and get all defensive about something is the main reason why i should'nt bother with value md anymore. lol. please know your facts before taking things out of context and coming up with conclusions about somebody whom you have never even met or bothered to meet on a personal level. thanks!

your remarks are totally unfounded and pretty much show your lack of diversity and knowledge about mexican culture. Actually, Guadalajara's women are extremely beautiful and men are very respectul so I dont think that you will be something "special" for people to go out of their way to whistle at you;) . I just came back from UAG today and I was happy to see the way people behave and how much men respect women. I will have to give you that latinos in america are not like that and they tend to be hornydogs but in mexico is completely different specially if you are in a middle class neighborhood. Caribbean sounds good to you. There are no sweet chocolates in mexico....lol:D

I agree. But you really need to stop making ridiculous posts about your "preferences" and other comments that are completely out of context. Concentrate on medical school and not about other things that we dont really care about. There is a reason why people get bothered with some of your comments so maybe look at yourself and analyze what is going on here and learn. This forum is supposed to be educational and insightful about medical school and its process but some of your posts are completely out of line and create too much controversy. Please post relevant information and leave your personal "preferences" and "views" of other things that are not medical school related out of the view of others that dont really care about them. Good luck

Well im glad somebody let me know whats up on value md! I apologize for creating "controversy" on here, that was never my intention at all. Also, I didn't mean to offend the Mexican culture at all either, I guess I just have had really bad experiences here in California that has created sort of an unneccesary and unwarranted stereotypical view. I am still new to value md, and I am glad somebody is putting me in my place as far as the proper things to say and post on here. However, I would much rather have somebody pm me and let me know straight up that what I am posting is not appropriate for value md. But thanks everyone anyway...(I do like criticism!) and again, I apologize!! Good luck everyone in your future endeavors! I'm exited to start on this life-long journey of medicine... I signed up for an anatomy/physio class to take over the summer before I start medical school (Thanks AmericanIMG) and I just got a job as a rehabilitation aide which will tie in perfectly with the classes as I will be around a lot of PT's.....so excited. :D:D:D
