Does anyone know which states Spartan Grads can practice in?
Also, I have noticed that Spartan students can do clerkships/residency in certain states but cannot gain licensure in those states and vice versa( can gain licence in certain states but cannot do residency/clerkship in them).
Is there anyone we should contact to further access these issues?
Anyone who has answers or comments on these topics, please feel free to share posts.

I can share personal internet search I did on licensures of carribean grads including Spartan, please note that is my personal web info and you must contact your desired state for current rules.
Spartan does have fully licensed grads in all US states except the state of California and I could not find anyone in Colorado ,VT, MN [I called MN and they said its ok for license but no one has applied], but all others including Wyoming,Hawaii...are included. Also they do have licensed grads in Europe,Africa,Middle East,Asia, but I could not find anyone licensed in Australia or Canada[may be there are few but did not show up on the internet].
Starting from NY:they have huge number of residents and attendings including current faculty at Cornell and Columbia college of physicians and surgeons.NJ also has same,DC has many,Boston also has many including recent Harvard trained that relocated to AZ to practice Anesth,as well as high position faculty with Boston Univ,Florida has large number of residents and attendings including the founder of the largest cardiology group in Miami as well as Harvard trained Radiologist and a director dept of health in the everglades.Alabama,Arkansas,CT[faculty Uni CT],Delware,GA[Large #],Hawii,Idaho,Illinois[large #],Iowa,Kansas,KY,LA,MD,MA,MI[large #],MS,MO,NE,NV,NJ,NM,NC,OH,OK,OR,PA,RI,SC,TN[Large #],Texas[one just started last Fall among older others],UTAH,VA,WA,WV all that I could verify from the hospitals physicians lists on the web.
Also on the internet Spartan has the 2005-2008 catalogue and they have a ariel photo of the campus which to me look like it consists of 7 buildings surrounded by a gate and 16 FT basic sciences faculty and they seem to have made huge improvements in their future and according to info one faculty is government official to oversee the standards is comparable to LCME,[the Dept of Educ had its meeting March 28 about St Lucia comparability accreditation and results will be available in 4-6 weeks].
Regarding states that allow residency but not license,I can only verify one incident where an applicant did cardiology residency in Indiana under resident license but denied full license and he complained to the AMA,the AMA international section chair on records made statment urging states not to have its own lists because that might discriminate against highly qualified physicians and taht physician is currently pioneer in his speciality in another warmer state.
Just sharing my research and personal opinion[please check with current rules and regulations of easch states because the web can have old info].
To me this school probably better than all other newer schools[of course SGU,ROSS,AUC,SABA are the best in the carribean and should be first choice always] but they[spartan] always being unfairly targeted and attacked,to me when I look at a school I want good facilities, good clinicals and most importantly successful grads everyehere and I see good campus based on the recent catalogue photos, same hospitals sites used by most carribeans, and exceptional grads all over!!!!at least its better than the majority of most third world countries med schools and better than all newer schools!!!!
fair is fair
just my personal opinion shared to help answer your questions from practicing physician point view.
good luck.........

Thank you ASIANDOC for this valuabe information, as for me i am from new york and have called the state regarding licensing and was told that it is fine, based on this information and the cost of this school relative to the rest of them i am sending my deposit today and will be attending in may.
I have done enough research about the school to see that it is a good school, but you really have to work hard on your own in order to succeed.
wish you luck to all of you.

Just a little thing about Hawaii, they are tough to license in. Although their laws will allow IMGs, they don't like to license physicians who are not originally from Hawaii

that's good news then. i have a cousin-in-law who graduated from AUC and had a lot of trouble getting licensed there. he eventually did but as I said before, they originally gave him trouble because he wasn't originally from Hawaii.

I asked few officials in regard to state policy that consider mainly residents of state for licensures and told that can't be true because not only considered discrimination but in order to get federal assistance and funds ,a state must have equal opportunity regardless of national origin. Also I believe above licensed
grad is Asian[I think Indian med school grad from what I remember reading but do not quote me on that because I am not sure].

As I mentioned in my previous post I could not find any grads in MN and Colorado,MN no problem according to the board,I found grad in Colorado in Residency.
I guess based on the internet search I can say :
Internet results conclusion:
Spartan has/had grads in every single state in the USA except for California and that was based on over 2 decades old decision, and Vermont ,may be just because no one interested yet[VT may have a list but probably like most using lists ,if US trained and BC you can get license by endorement [Except CA], its hard for any board to discriminate against such candidates on baseless reasons according to a supreme court opinion].

I found one grad in Minnissota, that leaves only VT[no one applied]and CA.
not bad to have licensed grads in all states except 2!!!![Note;CO could be resident license, not sure what residents needs for training in Colorado]
I conclude my search on this subject.
[all my info based on internet search,I am not affiliated with any school nor I support or not support any school, just sharing internet search.]

Just an update,I was able as stated before to find grads in all states except CA/VT,I think VT should be OK because on Windsor forum today they post grad of windsor at University of Vermont,if its OK from Windsor,I think its OK for Spartan.
"TAKEN FROM THE FM NEWSLETTER,UNIVERSITY OF VERMONT SCHOOL OF MEDICINE"
The annual Second-Look Weekend was held January 19-20, with seven candidates and partners attending
from around the country. There were between 30 and 40 Family Medicine folks at breakfast at the Sheraton
and at Catamount, where there was plenty of snow for sledding, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing.
Thanks to faculty and staff for their interest and participation in another successful interviewing season. It
was wonderful news when Match Day arrived on March 13 and we found that the residency had filled all six
spots. On March 15, we learned that the six students below will be a part of our program beginning mid-
June.

Dear sir/madam
I am planning to start my medical school in Caribbean. I have applied at St. Martinus University, Curacao, Netherlands Antilles. The school is listed with WHO and IMED. Students and Graduates are eligible to write USMLE and hence ECFMG certification.
I have few questions,
1) Is St. Martinus University ACCREDIATED BY VT MEDICAL BOARD? At this time, yes
2) Can graduates of St. Martinus University apply for Licensure in VT? At this time, yes
Your information will be appreciated.

I like to make 2 points:
1- if a state disapprove schools based on CA list,I have noticed that they copy CA list and use it[I belive VT used it at one point],the newer schools that never applied or site visited appeared as if they are approved[outside CA] but in fact such schools[like St Eust,St Martnuis,St Chris etc]even if they are not on the list, still ineligible for license in CA ,but because other states might just copy the list[As is] they might get away of being approved in that state or standards unknown yet[outside CA].
EX: the applicant from Spartan denied license in TN based on the TN minutes:denied based on fax from CMB stating failed approval in 85,but the board has no info on the other schools since they never file any application with CMB and the TN board would not ask about schools and even if they ask,CMB might say :not eligible but never applied for site visit AND I think that's the main reason most newer school afraid to apply specially after St Mathews denial, also, because everytime you want to search St Mathew or Spartan or any disapproved school name on the web ,you get:CA disapproved school list!!!!and sometimes employers forget about such applicants and malpractice lawyers love to use such info.[sad but true],it looks when reading CA list that only half dozens disapproved when in fact all are not approved except the known 4.
intresting observation:
[I was in a meeting once and discussing a site visit preperation for best hospitals inspectors and suggested to the board to put them[surveyors] in the new hotel across the hosp, they almost killed me[with their eyes] because the board said: its unacceptable in America to pay a cent for any site visit expanses for any purpose because that is conflict of interest", that was interesting because I knew its happening!!!!!].
2- Its very important to ask your future school if they own or rent the campus facilities, any accreditation group hate rentals!!!!school admin must have own facilities.
just sharing 2 points and personal opnion/thoughts

Adding on to state licensures eligibility per my internet search:
the country of St Lucia.
I read a statement by the Minister of health in the inaguration event of the Spartan Alumni Association,he said there are spartan grads St Lucian citizens practicing on the Island and some in residencies in the USA planning to return to practice[Surgery],also I ran into another IM St Lucian resident at Wayne State while I was researching the web.
spartan grads practicing in St Lucia per Minister of health /St Lucians citizens[you have to be citizen to practice outside your country:
Victoria hospital
Gros Isle polyclinic
one surgical resident planning to return [in CT now]
one IM resident Wayne State Uni hosp.
personal opinion and internet search
[as stated earlier some of the info on the internet may be old and verification is required to any info,I am just sharing what I find on the internet, the St Lucian license info is new].

1000 visitors saw this thread since 4/10 and the majority of replies were from by limited internet search?and I am not even part of this school!!!where are the Spartan crowd!!!!!
anyway, this thread should be enough to give individuals an idea about this institution based on my personal search.I believe that the school have made significant improvement in the past few years and if the US dept of education recertify it as comparable to US schools [it was fully comparable before]then it will be a positive new beginning.I would still consider the CA approved schools first due to risks associated with the others!!!!!
personal opinion and good luck
