I know that the school will get around to posting the match list when they hear from all of the grads. However, what we won't be able to figure out from that list is the number of students who didn't get residency positions.

For any current students, do you know of any classmates who passed Step 1 and 2 but did not get a position (either through a pre-match, the match, or scramble)?

Good Question! I would also like to know the answer.

well, an incomplete match list has already been posted at the school for a while now. results are probably still trickling in every day. about some people not matching...of course there will be those who failed to match. this could be due to many differing reasons, none of which we will know for sure. but yeah, a certain percentage of people not matching is just a reality that must be faced. just make sure you're not one of them. about the match list though, it looks pretty good, one radiology, 4 or 5 surgery, 4 or 5 anesthesiology, 5 or 6 EM, one ortho surg in canada, few FM in canada and also anesthesia in canada, and a whole bunch of FM and IM matches in states...

Hey,
I don't think you're ever going to get an accurate count, unless it's published by the school. I do know the school states in their 2005 Annual Survey (something I assume they put together for continued Board approval in NY and Cali) that the percentage of graduates obtaining residency was 88% for that year. Of course, that figure doesn't reflect the number of students who did not pass their steps. If I'm looking at the statistics correctly, it looks like for that class year ~124 finished Basic Sciences, but 108 were actually graduated. About 16 people didn't pass their steps. Of those who were graduated that year, about 13 didn't get into residency. So it looks like approximately 97 of 129 finishing the Basic Sciences went on to gain residency. That's about 75%. Of course we'd all like to see the number at 100%, but 88% is pretty impressive considering the average for IMGs is only 54%.

Also, I think the classes that have started since 2005 (following NY and Cali approval) have been significantly more competitive, on the whole, than previous classes. I would be surprised if the classes that graduate 2009 and after aren't in parity with US schools, which have a residency acceptance rate of 94%.

I can look around my September class (2009) and I honestly don't think there's a single person in there that couldn't pass the steps or get into residency.

Hey grimgrizly,

Did you apply for a difficult specialty, or did you go for IM or FP?

Would anyone mind telling me how long this unmatched list is?

I am so hung up on this whole match thing because of the data saying only around 50% of IMG's match. I can't get it out of my head that I could go to Saba and work my rear off and end up not being able to practice some form of medicine that I would enjoy. Also, I am financing my entire education.

To do my best at Saba, I have to get this thought out of my head.
