Is it worth retaking the MCAT to try to get into the scholars page program? Is the scholars pace program a huge advantage? Is the scholars pace program better than going to St. George? I would really appreciate wisdom from people. Thank you.

It's not worth even thinking about retaking the MCAT for the sake of PACE. The only reason I would retake the MCAT is for a better shot at a US school.
I've got a few friends in Pace, and while I've considered trying to sign up, I don't think that it's all that. The advantages are definitely blown out of proportion on these forums. Sure they get a little chat with the professors, and they get some extra quizzes. I get all the quizzes from friends, and I don't care to sit through a question/answer session. They also get access to mediasite from off campus, but from what I've seen the performance suffers when you are off campus. The off campus server is also kinda slow to update the lectures.
You can't compare Pace to going to SGU, because they are two different things.
I do believe that Pace offers an advantage to some people. However, people do voluntarily leave the Pace program, so it’s obviously not a great advantage for everyone.

actually i was offered Pace as well... I am starting this May.
However, I am not sure if i want to do it. Is there a greater time commitment to the program compared to the regular MD program? I read the thing about the students getting all the notes, thats very beneficial, but how about the time schedule for it compared to the regular program, specially in the first and 2nd term.
Thanks

The pace program doesn't do anything for you. I take that back it'll give the US counter a good laugh when you tell them that you went to the carribean school and join a pace program because you were smarter than the rest of the class. Don't even think about retaking for such a piece of *********. The truth is it doesn't help you in residecy placement, doesn't do anything for the step, the students on the island laughs at you and the students at us schools laughs at you so I really don't see the point of this program.

The reagular MD program?? Are you kidding me?? Trust me future Rossie being in that program doesn''t make you stand out amongst the US reject wanna be MDs. They are only using that program to open up more seats so that they can enroll more students (drop out) and take in more $$$. If you want the reality of this program try talking to the "regular MD students" and you will get a pretty good painting of the pace program.

It's not that the Pace program is better, it's just a different way to learn. Basically, it's a less structured program so you can watch lecture whenever you want. The main advantage is to be able to watch mediasite from home instead of having to be on campus to watch it. Basically, if you would rather make up your own schedule instead of following Ross' class schedule then it's for you. If you learn better in class then it's not.

thanks for ur help Carlota, thats the only decent neutral advise on this thread. I guess people really hate the Pace program. I still haven't understood the reason why? Is it harder? does it have more projects or something? If someone can pm me a proper response i would be glad to correspond.
thanks
PS my interviewer told me it helps with the "Minis", so i guess that was the quizzes right?
also what are the minis?
thanks

read this girl's blog: Island Med Student » Ross Scholars/Pace Program (http://www.islandmedstudent.com/home/2007/02/26/ross-scholarspace-program/)
she is in the program and gives a pretty good description of it.

The mini's are justthe name of the tests. Instead of saying test, they say mini. I believe the only reason people are so against the PACE program, is because they are not in it. It isn't harder, it's the same material and you take the same tests at the same time. They do get quizes written by the professors and they have to write some of their own. The people in pace have also gotten a few extra lectures that we have not which is a little unfair, but not enough to bash the program, at least in my opinion. As I said before, the advantage is more if you do not like to sit in a classroom all day but learn better at home in bed or on your couch or a comfy chair.
