As far as I know, we do have Baton Rouge, Louisiana as a place to complete your ICM course work during the 5th semester (I believe its Baton Rouge General Medical Center where its done). Someone can double check that for me (administrator), but I believe that's where you can do it.

Im pretty sure you can't do your ICM in Baton Rouge at this time, though they are working on getting it there. As of now (at least as of last month) ICM is in Chicago. As for Baton Rouge General Medical Center, you can do at least greenbook Internal Med rotation, and a few other non-greenbook rotations there. But I could be wrong, Ive been wrong before.

Alright, well that didn't solve the situation... anyone else know whether you can or not? Let me check with admin and see what they say...

No ICM and Kaplan is not offered in Baton Rouge. See previous posting I have made about what is offered in Baton Rouge and the Kaplan schedule.

thanx everyone for your input. I just checked with admin and they said that we can do our ICM in Baton rouge....they just finalized it last week. Thanks everyone. Good luck to you all. :)
All IAU students will continue to do their ICM course at Jackson Park in Chicago. ICM in Baton Rouge is NOT an option at this time. It may be in the near future, but currently it is not.
There seems to be a lot of confusion regarding this issue, even among our own students. On behalf of IAU, I apologize for this confusion.

Do you guys even feel like "real" medical students? You are havingto worry abnout where you will do your rotations! Does no one else find this mind blowing? You guys are either dedicated or delusional enough to stick with a new school that may or may not screw you over in the near future in order to pursue your dreams (or your parents) of becooming a doctor. Yay! Its good to know there are good schools out there looking after public safety and not just trying to make a buck.

What, is it for real....i talked to someone in the office and they said that lousiana is now one of the option and i confirmed that by repeating what that person said. What kind of officials are there....anyways, lets see what happens...thanx anyways..
Our introduction to clinical medicine course (ICM) is taken during the 5th semester, after the student completes the basic sciences in St. Lucia. It lasts 7-8 weeks and is done at Jackson Park Hospital in Chicago. Following ICM, the student is enrolled in a Kaplan course for Step 1 review and preparation. The Kaplan course can be done in a few different U.S. cities; the location is up to the student.
Upon successful completion of Step 1, the student is placed in clinical rotations. These can be done in Chicago or Baton Rouge or at any of our GMC-affiliated hospitals, as explained before in this forum as well as on our website (http://iau.edu.lc/clinicals.html) (http://iau.edu.lc/clinicals.html%29).

Yes we do feel like "real" medical students, at our "real" IMED accredited and charted university, attending "real" clinic observations at "real" hospitals in St. Lucia, having clinicals in "real" accredited hospitals in the U.S. which is posted on our "real" website, pursuing our "real" dreams and aspirations, passing "real" NBME exams for each individual subject, passing "real" USMLE exams before clinical rotations, while using "real" spell check and grammar check before posting negative, irrelevant, false, and/or sensitive comments about dedicated students and faculty.

Perhaps the confusion, although it may not be in your case, rather for the many others that are viewing this post, is the difference in what is being asked. Please note that ICM and Clinicals are to different programs. Thus, when you are questioning the 'fifth semester' option, make sure you are specifying between the two. Can Admin help differentiate between the two programs for the benefit of all the viewers?! Thanks
Hope this helps clear the confusion...Good luck!

Sargam et al., please refer to what IAU Official has posted above. ICM is a course in the 5th semester, and as such, is done with your entire class. Because of how the programs are set up, there is a microscopic chance that your class will do ICM in Baton Rouge. So, to answer the question, Yes you "can" do ICM in Baton Rouge; however you "will" do ICM in Chicago. So please plan for that scenario. And dont worry, you'll survive ICM in Chicago...I just did last month. Sorry for the confusion, it seems to be a problem with semantics.
