Is there a way to present a complaint re: testing conditions?
Im a first sem student and I just took my histology practical today.
The exam is itself was ok, but there some annoying things.the seat i was assigned to didnt have a booklet/scantron initially. In addition, in my row, there were too many students and some of us had to go the back of the room and use those tiny "desk-seats". Im right handed and i had to use a left-handed lol.
And it wasnt that comfortable. Its a good thing the histo practical isnt too long or involved, but i would hope to prevent that from happening the next time.
I want to talk to someone about it , but who.
Thanks for any help

I dunno, maybe try the Exam Review Rep.
The scantrons and booklets were handed out when you walked in the door, they were never on the desk until you put them there.
The left handed thing does suck, but I've been in them before and I'm not sure it rises to a level that would have affected your test score.
I'm pretty sure your comfort complaint would go nowhere in a real hurry but if you feel the need to complain then, by all means, go for it.

Ah, the benefits of an anonymous forum. Make sure you announce that the first day of classes in front of the administration AND your classmates! :p :p :p I love the posters who come on the forum and act so studly!
How could someone who went to a top 5 undergrad end up at Ross...man, that is like a neurosurgeon ending up as a surgical tech! Your ego must be shattered! That, or you really screwed up in undergrad!
Anyways, I'm not here for any flamewars...I just had to applaud your arrogance! A++++

Well the conditions were horrible. I was stuck in the back and couldn't tell the difference between pseudostratified and stratified... i probably missed about 5 questions cause i couldn't see the damn screen. But it's only 7% of our grade and histo is easy... but still sucks to throw away easy points that should be padding my grade instead of hurting it
And at least 10 other people in the back row were complaining about the same thing. But honestly, they're not gonna do anything, I'm going to e-mail him and hopefully get myself a seat up front in the next exam
By the way, for the first group, the exams were sitting on the desks, they may have changed that for the second one
Coltrane you went to a top 5 undergrad and you're ending up at ross??? LOL, mention your school at least, easy to talk big when you're anonymous. By the way, which top 5 school? USNews.com: America's Best Colleges 2007: National Universities: Top Schools (http://www.usnews.com/usnews/edu/college/rankings/brief/t1natudoc_brief.php)
Simple fact, we all did something stupid to end up here. Nobody comes here cause they did well in undergrad. either that or you got a 15 on the MCATs?

sigh
Each row is supposed to have students every other seat to reduce cheating and what not. the 3rd row had like 6 people next to each other in certain parts.
I guess it was too much to expect someone whos actually here to give a response lol...

I was in the first group(1pm). I was in c row with like six people next to me w/o a test booklet/scantron.
Yeah, i know they dont care, but hopefully it wont happen again. histo is prolly one of the easier things to get a good grade, and i dont wanna lose easy points.

Ah. Obviously, I was in the second group...and the booklets were distributed differently.
If there is a complaint to be made, it is that you couldn't see the slides in great enough detail to determine the subtle differences between some of the cells. I think you'd have an okay case on a few of the slides. Some of the stuff was so obvious that you didn't really need to be in the room to tell what it was. The comfort thing is going nowhere, so you might drop that straight away.

For your information, ive done decently enough on anat practical, mini 1, and whatever so kindly rethink you ropinions. Everything was fine for those exams re: conditions, so please dont jump to some unfounded conclusions.
you could tell the profs too were upset b/c the scantrons/test for about 15-20 students were not arranged and 15 or so had to be reassigned seats
the exam itslef started about 15 min after it was supposed to , which is unusual for ross, since past exams were prompt to start/end.
I didnt say that it affected my taking of the exam that much, as most of the exam was veryeasy/ straightforward, however just b/v someone poorly organized the seating i dont think it is unreasonable to suggest better organization. Im not trying to be a diva, i just dont wan ti tot happen whn its mini time or something.

i read this last night and thought, oh this is going to get interesting...
to Coltrane, why do you think Ross is going to so easy? You haven't even started yet...

Obviously somone messed up with the seating and I think they are WELL aware of that fact. It sucks that your were one of the students that needed to be moved but I doubt it will happen again. Complaining that you were uncomfortable is not going to do anything. Just deal with it this time and next time I'm sure they will be more organized. You class just happens to be the biggest one at Ross thus far and there are going to be issues with that.

when i took my histo pracs and neuro for that matter, if i found my seat uncomfortable or i couldnt see i simply raised my hand before the test began and they reseated me.
complaining on a forum isnt going to do anything, if you have problems with your seat you should tell the facilitator, its always worked for me

Well, I sent an email to Dr. K , and I know it isnt his fault, but I thought i should say something before I forget to. Just hope it doesnt repeat on Monday lol..
Anyway , Dru or other moderators, can you close the thread? I dont want to get in to a flame war w/random people over this.
Thanks

You asked for advice. The forum, in which you choose to do so, necessarily includes random people.

Ladies and gentleman....WELCOME TO ROSS UNIVERSITY....
...as the number of students increases every year...get ready to experience the effect of it...wait til you get to clinicals! Last week, I tried to call the clinical sciences department and the phone was never picked up...I couldn't get in contact with my advisor for some three days! And when they do pick up the phone, you can hear the stress in their voices. Handling calls from hundreds of students...there comes a point when the increasing numbers of students starts to boil over. Get used to anything that happens on the island...cramped learning environment and what not...
Sadly enough, Ross is a business...they got to make a profit...and if it means increasing the number of students in order to do so, then be it! You just got to deal with it and make the best out of it I guess.

u have a lot yet to experience....
i still remember my first mini at Ross....the power went out...the back up generators were out too.....i still remember the students by the windows and doors continued with the mini while the rest got more and more frustrated.....
u will see what I mean....u have another 14 months to go....
Again, I think the info (questions and answers) are valuable info for present and prospective students. I note several TOS violations and have dealt with them on a private basis. I am choosing to leave the thread open for the present, hoping users can respond in a mature and responsible manner.

It's hard here, no doubt it, academically and the living conditions.
I think we all suffer but there's not much that can be done, so we can get through it together, or just get frustrated.
I was in the room with you with the same situation.
It's tough, I give you that, but all we can do is keep moving forward.
Complaints are great, but it's post fact. Just make sure on the next exam if it bothers you that much to tell the proctors.
