I am setting up my 4th year schedule. I would really like to do the allotted "12 week out of network hospital" electives in Los Angeles.

Does anyone know of specific accredited hospitals anywhere in the Los Angeles area that offers 4th year electives to SGU students??

Thanks for any replys.

You can use your 12 weeks to do 4th year electives at any accredited hospital program-you just need to fill out the paperwork. So if you know a hospital that you want to rotate through just contact the hospital and see if they will take you and then get the paperwork to fill out.

would that it be that simple!!!
there are many (many, many, many) places that will not take foreign students or if they do take foreign students, they don't take caribbean students. So its not just about filling out the paperwork- many places you are not allowed to fill out the paperwork.

angelina- this website might help in your search

TTUHSC :: School of Medicine : Visiting Student & Residency Information (http://www.ttuhsc.edu/som/studentAffairs/USmedschools.aspx)

it at least has easy access to the different programs' website.
how's kern- heard you were there!! good luck!! i know cali is hard to get rotations!

Thanks for the reply...I'll be sure to check out that website. I was hoping somebody on this forum could just name off a few hospitals in LA that they were able to secure 4th year electives; but it looks like I am going to have to do some research.

Kern is great. I've been here since November. I'm seeing so many familar SGU faces. I just survived my first week of ob/gyn. The hours are tortuously long, but I'm finally in the groove of things.

California is hard to get rotations, but lucky-lucky for me, I was able to schedule all my cores and electives here. Now, I'm just getting greedy and trying to do what I can near/in Los Angeles.

I wish you well.

You might want to look into LA County USC. I (US med student) did my ER elective there and when I did there was a girl from Ross who was there as well. I know she also did a Hem/Onc elective with the Medicine folks after the ER elective. I was kinda shocked that she was able to rotate there since she was from the carribean, so I asked her how she worked it, she told me she just applied and got it. haha....So try looking into that.

Also for Peds elective there is Children's Hosp of Orange County (CHOC).

Outside of those institutions its gonna be tough. You can entertain the notion of applying for UC system hosp, but seriously save your application $$$, UCLA and UCI are so anti-FMG its not even funny.

Hope that helps!

Thank you for inquiring about clerkship experiences at the affiliated hospitals of the Keck School of Medicine of USC. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer clerkship training positions to students enrolled in foreign medical schools. Because of the limited number of openings available and the large demand from visiting students, it is our policy to only accept senior students enrolled in the United States/Canada LCME accredited schools.
