I'm assuming this is assigned during orientation or whenever but thought I'd ask on the chance that there's flexibility in when you do what rotation.
What about groups - say I have a friend at the same hospital that I want to rotate with?
Thanks.

i don't know about other places, but st. joes assigns you to the rotations and you get your assignments during orientation- though sister B is willing to accommodate some changes- i would suggest you and your friend go to her on the 1st day and let her know you would like to be in the same rotations (though this doesn't guarantee you will do the same things on the rotation itself).

Thanks rokshana. I should probably just ask you my Qs directly. lol
But since there's always the chance that placements can change, figure I'd let anyone who cares to answer do so.
The one big thing I wanted to avoid is that my g/f will be off of work at the end of August and coming to visit so I don't want to be doing surgery around then if possible. Something nice and easy like Psych would be great. But in the end, I'm not going to be making a big deal about it and am not getting my heart set on it happening.
Regarding the friend thing, I was just curious. Most of my closer friends are going to NY. I know a bunch of people going to St. Joe's but no one I'm super close with so it doesn't matter to me really who I rotate with (as long as they're not complete morons).

At Elmhurst QHC and I know at Methodist and Lutheran, the schedules were given out at orientation and there was no switching. The schedule was the schedule. You also had no say (unfortunately sometimes) who you get to rotate with etc. That is all pre-determined in the schedule. I am not saying if you had some sort of issue you could not speak to them about it but you can't really go and say you want to be with so and so.
At LICH you're assigned & given schedule at the very end of orientation day#2. The schedule & the combination of teams is put together by the hospital but there's some kinda 'red tape' holdup from - SURPRISE! - Bayshore. You can pitch your request to the student coordinator (who, btw, is a total sweetheart) and see what she can do, I'm sure if you state a carpooling etc. reason she'd be considerate.

Ha ha! Good luck trying to make any special requests at Methodist. Unless you are prepared to do some serious butt kissing and sell your soul to the devil...or kiss the devil's butt...but I'm not bitter or anything.
