What is everyones experience waiting for core sites to open? Did you have to wait extended peroids (1-2 months) or were they back to back? How wiling was MEAS to schedule you at same location if possible?

Thanks Guys!!

they are willing to schedule you in the same location as long as they have all the cores in that location...for instance baltimore does not have ob/gyn and peds so you will have to go to NY or somewhere else for those rotations and you may have a break in btw....i went back to back for im and surgery then i had a couple months of electives followed by psych then ob/gyn and peds....so basically i have gone back to back

if you go to NY you can go back to back because they have alot more sites about there

once you get IM and Surgery done any breaks in between can be filled with almost any elective so you can go through all the way. i HIGHLY recommend taking a few weeks off here and there...i went straight through, took step 2 CS during a rotation and only took off 2 weeks to study for step 2 and i was exhausted...now i am rested but bored out of my mind with not much to do til residency...i even started watching ER---i feel so dirty

It depends. If you are waiting for a specific site, you may have to wait. The good thing is that while you wait, you can do electives. Family Practice, Pathology, Psych & Anesthesiology are 3 that I know off-hand that you can do before your cores and not feel lost. Neuro may even be possible. On the other hand, if you are not particular on where you want to go, then there are a TON of sites in New York so I don't see any reason why you couldn't get cores scheduled ASAP and back to back rather easily there. Another option that some students did... If you wanted to do your cores at a specific site but had a gap of a month or so, you could go to New York and do an elective out there and then get back in time to start your "regular" location. For some reason, it's much faster to schedule electives in NY. Personally, I haven't had any problems as far as scheduling back to back thus far. Just be willing to travel for a couple weeks here and there if need be and you shouldn't have a problem. Well, but then again, I'm single with no kids so I guess it's easier for me to move around lol. Anyway, good luck.

If it's taking this long for Axis I, how long is it going to take for Axis II ???
