I just wanted to know from anyone who has gone through the H-1B visa process to enlighten me on what documents I need to keep ready, so that I can submit these ASAP once the match is announced.

As far as I can remember, you will need a photocopy of your medical diploma, transcript of records, ECFMG certificate, updated CV, a copy of the contract from the hospital where you had matched, a photocopy of your I-94, pages of your passport, and a physician-in-training license, or similar to this. Of course you should have passed the step 3 -- you will need to provide proof of this.

I hired a lawyer to file the I-129 for me, and he contacted the PD of the program to provide additional documents, and also the medical board where the training program was located.

This is very helpful information, thank you. What is I-94 and I-129? I'll check web site too.

I-94 is the nonimmigrant arrival-departure document/card issued at the port of entry, and I-129 is the Petition for a nonimmigrant worker. Most training hospitals are non-profit, and either University-based, or affiliated with a medical school/university, so the H1B is usually not counted against the cap. Just be prepared to shoulder the cost of processing your H1B visa -- I tell you though that it is worth it! Just consider it as an investment on your future here in the US.
