Hello, to every one :p

my question is:

how does FLUTAMIDE treat prostatic cancer though it increases LH and testosterone level ??

and

how does it cause gynecomastia if the androgen level is the one which increase ??

i wish you could help in these ..

Flutamide Is A Non Steroidal Compound And Essentially An "androgen Receptor Inhibitor"......so It Does Not Allow Androgen To Have Its Effect On Prostate.....and Therefore Helpful In The Treatment Of Prostate Cancer......
And Since The Male Hormone Does Not Act On The Androgen Receptors Elsewhere In The Body....the Patient Tends To Have Gynaecomastia.....

Aromatase converts the testosterone into estradiol. Excess estradiol leads to proliferation of breast tissue.

aromatase is an enzyme of cytP450 group whose function is to convert androstenidione to estrone...... and testosterone to estradiol.

In humans gene cyp19 located on chr no 15q21 encodes for this enzyme.

The enzyme aromatase is found in many organs including gonads ,brain, adipose tissue, placenta, blood vessels, skin, bone, endometrium.
