I did a search about wireless internet and I know its available, but not great, on the island.
My question is if my current wireless card, Linksys, would work in St Maarten or if it is totally different system.
Thanks

I know it depends on the transmitter (the radio thing they mount on the house, pole, tree, rock, etc . . .). There is one unit from Caribserve that allows that router and runs well as long as not too many people are downloading. They will let you know when you get it set up; however, I would check with neighbors as sharing is sometimes more cost effective.

The wireless card in your laptop should be fine. I haven't heard of anyone having any trouble with compatibility.

Yeah, should be fine. Can't guarantee you'll get any reception on campus, a lot of people don't.

Like everything on this island, its all about the money. The internet speed is decent at home (Caribserve.net) but school is SLOW. When everyones online during the day, it creeps along. The school doesn't want to increase cost of internet by buying more bandwidth. The new system the school is bringing up is an INTRANET, which means it is based on internal computers. The internet will still be available to access through the new routers, but as for speed and dependability. Bandwidth is bandwidth.
