hi,

what kinds of options are available to a canadian, that year after graduating from a caribbean medical school, and before starting a residency on an h1b visa the following year? what kind of visa will you be on during that period?

i was thinking, as a canadian, i could get a TN visa, find some place to live in the US, get any job that'll keep me alive (and pay interest on loans) while i write the USMLE3 and get all that visa stuff taken care of.

is that what everyone in the past has done?

you are allowed as a canadian to stay in the US for 6 months "no questions asked"..... why don't you just stay in canada and study there and get a job etc and study at home?? (i.e with your parents to save rent, if it's possible?)...

i wasn't asked a thing when i landed in miami (post-9/11), they just stamped my passport and i walked away. :-)

you could get a TN visa, but you need a job first.

also, try working at a US-Canadian border city so you can be in or near both countries.

oh, i guess that's true. i was just wondering what everyone else in my situation would do. i'm in toronto, which isn't too far away from the states, it's not a border city, but close enough. if i can stay at home that'd be best.
