1. Compare and contrast in structure and function the somatic and autonomic nervous system.

2. Define the term cardiac output and describe its control

3. Compare the cellular localisation and function of receptors for steroid and hydrophilic peptide hormones. Give 2 examples for each hormone

4. List 6 types of cell found in the retina and briefly describe their functions.

5. Compare and contrast the gross and microscopic structure of the small and large intestine and briefly relate this to function.

I tried to google it but thts has way too much info I dont get. If you can help me to understand it that be great.

[quote=latkan;548170]13. Compare the cellular localisation and function of receptors for steroid and hydrophilic peptide hormones. Give 2 examples for each hormone
This has to do with whether the hormone can cross the cell membrane. Cell membranes are mostly lipids, right. If it is lipid soluble, i.e., steroid, it crosses the membrane and the receptors are in the nucleus. If it is hydrophillic/nonlipic it cannot cross the cell membrane so attaches on the receptor which is on the surface of the cell. After the hormone binds to the receptor it sets off chemical cascades in the cell which also influence cellular activity in the nucleus. This is where second messengers and G-proteins come into play.

Steroids would be an example of hormones which cross the cell membrane and the receptors are inside cell. Insulin is an example of a molecule with receptors on the cell surface. You should be able to figure out the rest or at least what to search for. This would be found in biochem or cell biology textbooks. Maybe physiology texts also.

Hope this helps. I'm going from memory, hope this is all right.

1. Compare and contrast in structure and function the somatic and autonomic nervous system.

Pull out your a&p textbook and find the nervous system chapter. It will undoubtedly begin with the devisions of the CNS. I would define these but you should try to understand the classifications. Otherwise when you get to sympathetic and parasympathetic, adrenergic and muscarinic receptors, etc. and other info you are going to be lost.

2. Define the term cardiac output and describe its control

This is a basic concept in the circulatory chapter. The amt of blood pumped per ventricle per unit time. Control: what controls heart?

3. Compare the cellular localisation and function of receptors for steroid and hydrophilic peptide hormones. Give 2 examples for each hormone

4. List 6 types of cell found in the retina and briefly describe their functions. I only know of two: rods and cones. Pull out the Eye chapter and look until you find the rest. Wait I found there are bipolar neurons and ganglion cells. You'll just have to search.

5. Compare and contrast the gross and microscopic structure of the small and large intestine and briefly relate this to function. I really want to help but I don't want to write an essay. Look at the digestive system chapter. Think about the function of each then find some kind of explanation and/or pictures of cells and tissues which line the sm and lrg intestine.

I tried to google it but thts has way too much info I dont get. If you can help me to understand it that be great.

HOpe this helps
