I see on MySGU that there is a CPR Exam scheduled for late january, term 1. What is this exam? Is it for a class, or for cardiopulmonary resuscitation training? Thanks!

CPR certification. It's not part of any class.

Not part of any class, but it is required.

Actually, obtaining CPR certification (at SGU or elsewhere) is a required part of 1st/2nd term Clinical Skills. :-)

so if I already have my First Aid with CPR A certification from the Canadian Red Cross, will this allow me to bypass taking this SGU CPR exam? does anyone know?

Well, I have no idea what CPR A is, but if it is the same as the US Red Cross' CPR for the Professional Rescuer or AHA's Basic Life Support, (i.e. incl. Adult/Child/Infant), then you can either:
1) Opt out of the CPR class/exam by providing the Clinical Skills office with a copy of your card
-or-
2) Do the "Fast-track" program where you just demonstrate skills (~1-2 hrs) and get a brand new AHA BLS card that's good for two years. You do not need to take the written for this option. (Clinical Skills may require you to do this if your card is recently expired/about to expire). Much cheaper, and much easier than any U.S.-based recertification programs.

You will NOT be allowed to bypass the SGU CPR Exam with your current qualifications.
Our standards hold that we must hold a card and know CPR-C (class C)

Is the CPR-C class available through the Red Cross before we get to Grenada? Would make sense to take it ahead of time to lighten course load on the island.

I wouldn't spend too much energy worrying about it. It's during the first couple weeks of class and it's only a few hours of time. Also, you don't have to pay for it if you do it at SGU but I think you do if you do it on your own.

however judging from the last 1stterm class, there are a few that actually failed the CPR class, i dont know how, but that is pretty bad IMO

yes there are always some who do fail. and you gotta do it again. the only way to fail is to not put effort into it.

People fail that?
I was just coming in here to joke about failing but guess that I can't do that any more.
I agree with jaywalk that it's pretty bad to fail something like that.

I remember there was a guy who loudly announced the answers to the exam as we were walking out of the auditorium...and they were all wrong. I assumed that he was joking, but who knows?

Yeah, I remember they posted the first-termers grades in front of Bell and there were about half a dozen people that failed. Out of 350 students there are bound to be at least a few people that fill in the bubbles wrong or just plain screw it up.
