I was told by someone traveling today that AA states that we cannot use boxes when traveling to Dominica.

Everything must be in a suitcase.

Do any other airlines have these restrictions? Is it a restriction from AA or a restriction that Dominica has.

Has anyone else encountered this problem?

Cardboard boxes - better to get large suit cases from KMart or Walmart. This is the AA link on luggage. Remember you most likely will go thru Miami or San Juan and a sub carrier.

Last January, the family and I were on our way back when we got some bad news: No boxes to Dominica. Not only did I have to repack (we had a BIG problem with overweight stuff), but I had to send my wife off to find the biggest suitcase that she could find in the airport to put the box into. So, to make a long story short, NO BOXES ARE ALLOWED.

crap!!! that sucks...I called AA (who i am flying with) and they said boxes are fine as long as they are less than 76 or 79" in total circumference or something along those lines. So is it okay from the states to san juan, and then from san juan to dominica you have to use luggage? That is a really weird requirement...if anyone else has the opportunity please call AA and ask them the same thing, and ask about dominica and post on here. They told me boxes were fine when i called last week!

remember its American Airlines from the states to san juan (still techincally the states) or BGI (though to get to dominica most of you probably don't go that far south), then its AMERICAN EAGLE within the caribbean, so you have to follow AE's rules (whih are very different from AA's).

well my friend that notified me was at the airport and was told she cant check her boxes and she needed to find a way to move all her stuff into some sort of a suitcase/duffle bag, anything but a box.

cool, sounds like luggage is the cool thing to use these days...cardboard boxes lost their flashiness.
