It is Dec 27th, and I just found out TODAY that I was accepted to the foundation to medicine program for Jan 07..Classes start Jan 15th. Do you think I will be able to defer for the Aug fOM program? There is no way I can find a ticket, pack, tell everyone goodbye in one week. I am not emotionally ready for this. I applied for the J term because I thought I would know in a timely fashion. I completed my apps in August, interviewed two weeks ago and now I am accepted. I also want to do FOM in August because I applied to US schools. I was placed on hold for a US medical school so this is a chance I have for acceptance. I also applied to other schools in which I haven't heard from. What are your thoughts?

I don't think that you can defer with SGU. The best they would offer is that you could re-aply for Aug. but I think that may be risky as Aug is more competitive.

What are your thoughts?Seriously - you are in - tickets can be purchased online and quickly in say 20-30 minutes, packing is a snap a couple of pants, shirts and shoes - rest you can get on the island. Have a party and say good bye to all....no one is emotionally ready....just do it and don't think about it...

you interviewed TWO weeks ago, for the Jan class- so you had to know it was a possiblity!!!
but yeah, tix can be bought and goodbyes said in a couple of days!! Just do it!.
If you get into the US school in the fall, then withdraw from sgu and go to the US school - you will have had a head start on your 1st semester so the adjustment won't be so great when you start over in the fall. If you don't get into the US school then you will be ahead of the game!! (Plus what does "hold" mean? Waitlisted? you never know with that - I was #6 on the waitlist at a school in Va 2 weeks before school started and never moved, so you can't count on that.
if you haven't heard from a US school by now, its not likely you will get an interview and if you do, realistically you are interviewing for a waitlist spot- not an acceptance, most of the schools by this point have put out enough acceptances to fill their repsective classes and nothing will really change until May 15th (the day you MUST release multiple acceptances from US schools).
sgu does not do deferrals and like its been said before, aug is generlly more competitive than jan- there is no guarantee you'll get the spot then!

and there was also a vmd member who was in a similar situation with MPH program, he.she turned it down hoping to get into other carib schools; but at the end he was not accepted to any schools and decided to go for the MPH at SGU,, but then it was too late.
so this is your shot, be smart and dont let emotion take control.

if you were me you'd be lucky. see i have no friends, so im cool with goodbyes. But just get into crazy mode and pack and say goodbye for a couple days and do as many searches as possible of this forum to get info to become mentally ready. But of course, listen to your heart (and brain).
