So what do you ladies do with your hair? Is it easy to get relaxers, braids etc? I wear braids 80% of the time and I do have relaxed hair. What do you recommend I do with my hair before I arrive there?
I hope there are some on Value MD to help me.
Thanks in advance!

You're coming to a country where 90% of the population is Black.

Trust me, it's not going to be a problem...

I'm not there yet, but it probably makes sense to braid it initially. That way you can:

1.get adjusted to school and see if you have time to redo your hair often
2. scope out hair salon availability and prices

I did that when I started college and it worked out well, b/c while you're adjusting you don't what to be worried about your hair too.

I agree with Grashopper. Plus, you can ask several employees where they go to have their hair done, therefore you can get a price range and reputation of the hairdresser. I wear my hair in dreadlocks. Everytime, I would go into town the locals always said "rasta" to me...kind of interesting. Good luck at SGU

A lot of black femle students braid their hair initially and then later talk to some of the 3rd, 4th, etc semester students about where to go. Also, you could ask some of the people who work at the school, or someone you see on the island where to go. Good luck.

Thanks everyone.
Had to ask even though the island is mostly black. I don't like to assume things.
