What should i do. I passed everything but histo (sem 1), missed MPS by one point! (Kallie!!!) How does probation work? How is histo in sem 2? Any shady ways of getting around a point?!? Help me out guys, what is the best thing for me to do??

Thanks in advance!

Like other courses, histo is harder in sem2 than 1. But if u only missed MPS by 1 point i dun think u should waste ur time repeating first semester.

if it helps you any, I did better 2nd semester versus 1st. material was easier just the amount of material was more... i felt like since i've been on the island for one semester already, i know what to expect and can't complain much (about living) since i've been through it one semester already....I was more determined/concentrated on studying 2nd moreso than 1st...less worryiny and now you know what you gotta do to "survive"!!!

they will make you repeat 3 courses from 1st semester is what the rule book states.

histo +2 of your choosing.

But if you are in the 60's in everything else, they might make you repeat everything. Not too sure how it works, thats what happened to friends of mine.

okay so I'm going into 4th semester and I was in this same situation that you are in when i went from 1st to 2nd.

I missed Histo MPS by one point so they (the promotions comittee) let me go onto 2nd semester on Probation. My grades were much better 2nd semester in all classes than they were in 1st. Just make sure to rock histo and remember that at the end of 2nd semester, MPS will go UP b/c when they figure out final MPS's they drop everyone that FAILED/IS REPEATING 1st semester which means that overall MPS is higher.

Goodluck.

whatever you do do NOT look for "Shady ways" around anything. Aside from the obvious fact that you should hold yourself to higher standards as a doctor, others will. any misadventure will likely cost you your degree/career and can even give you legal trouble. also one does not repeat an entire series of classes because they failed one class. bes talk to your dean.

The student handbook says that any student who is in Semester 1 and 3, who has at least a 50% in one or two classes, and has at least met the MPS for their other courses, has the choice to move onto the next semester, or repeat.

hello
12-25-2006, 01:37 AM
i passed all my courses in first semester.
i failed two classes in second semester by a few points off MPS.
do i need to retake all the courses in second semester?
do i instead take the two courses i failed and an additional course of my choosing?
would i need to take anatomy again, even if i have passed it with a C?
will i be able to register during my registration time or have to wait for an appeal with the promotions committee?
do i have to go before the promotions panel or just speak to someone from administration?
please help me out with any information because nobody from administration is responding. thank you for all your help.

Yes, Fail one class and you have to repeat the whole semester. Do not fail and you will not have to worry about it.

Fail one class and repeat the semester????

I've got an excellent idea. Why don't you review the thread that you recently posted on
Probation, Repeat, or dont come back??? (http://www.valuemd.com/ross-university-school-medicine/126446-probation-repeat-dont-come-back.html)

Or call Ross and ask for a student handbook since you recently were accepted...
just be honest about Ross (http://www.valuemd.com/ross-university-school-medicine/126385-just-honest-about-ross.html)

I know..I know....then you wouldn't have the chance to post a negative about Ross.

fragor caput capitis - better known as a CrackHead

Can you read the threads you post on before starting duplicates (you've only posted on three so far) - or just call Ross and find out for yourself. I guess that's not as fun as trying to bash a school, which is what you seem to be doing when you started this duplicate.

do you know if one has to register for all classes when repeating a semester, or just the failed ones and along with courses that had marks just above mps?

everyone thank you for the good advice. i turns out that i actually missed MPS by 0.13 points!!!

say i do go on probation... and worst case senerio, i were to fail something. what happens from there. i heard that you have to take first and second sem. at the same time???? how true is that? i also heard that you could go back to first??

say i repeat, do my grades from this semsiter get thrown out completely and replaced with my new grades??

thank you thank you,

an MPS of 70. Thats insane
and seemingly impossible because that indicates a class average of 90%+/-3%

No just not possible because the handbook shows that the MPS falls in a range between 55-65, meaning that if you score a 65 or better you are guaranteed to pass.

For those of you considering probation, just remember that however many points you missed MPS by in 1st or 3rd, you have to get above MPS that same amount in order to pass. For example, if MPS is a 57 in 1st semester and you get a 55 and MPS is a 60 in second semester, you need to get a 62 to pass. It can be done but it is difficult. If you don't believe me, you'll find out when you have to go before the promotions commitee. Good luck and proceed with caution.

Thats some fuzzy math if i've ever seen it.

Semester 1/3 = 45% of your mark

Semester 2/4 = 55% of your mark

Semester 2/4 MPS = FINAL MPS

So if you you got a 55 in semester 1, and the MPS in semester 2 is 60, you would need at least a 64 to pass.

thecure4u

There is no math involved. That's the funny thing about it. You missunderstand my point. When I said MPS in second semester is a hypothetical 60%, I mean that's what MPS is to pass the course for the combination of 1st and 2nd. But if you're on probation and you get a 60% overall, you still don't pass. In my example, you have to get a 62% overall.

sarahtarah
01-03-2007, 10:50 PM
you have to remember that the MPS are different.

for ex, in first histo was 57, in 2nd semester histo was 60.

so if you passed with a 57 in first you had to get 63+ to get a 60 and pass.

always shoot for 65.

So if you are on probation you need to "make up" the percentages missed in the first half?

That's pretty strange, but I guess its par for the course for this mickey mouse school.
