Charles University: Faculty 3...PreMed...

Just got back from Prague...I went to go visit the university and spoke with the Head of department... Seemed pretty good and I will be attending in Jan for the PreMed Course....

... did you have to take an entrance exam for Charles? I got through the whole process with Palacky, CZ and then did not want to fly in for the entrance exam. Call me lazy. But the CZ seems to have their act together more than anyone. I would appreciate any info you have.

Has anyone taken the pre-med course?

I am considering taking it - I have a BA and have taken many pre-req courses in preparation, but haven't taken Microbiology or Organic Chem yet. I thought that maybe this would be a good route?

The admission counselor told me that many students take it and then if they do well on the entrance exam (looks somewhat like the MCAT??) go on to study at Charles.

Hello everyone,
I am thinking of taking the premed course as well.
I can't decide if I should the 5month at the 3rd Faculty in Prague or the full-year preparation program (called the UJOP in Podebrady, see this link Learn Czech Language, Pre-Programme, Podebrady, ILPS, Charles University, Czech Republic (http://www.ujop.cuni.cz/page/en/strediska/podebrady/kurz13.html)).

Here's a little bit about me:
I studied in the US, have a BA---took a year of intro Biology and 1 year of Anatomy. I took 1 year of chemistry but didn't take Organic chem. I also took 1 semester of Microbiology. I took 1 year of Physics in high school but not in college.

I am willing to do all the necessary preparation because I would really like to study at Charles. However, if it's not really necessary to get in, then I'd rather save that money/loans for med school.


Anyone taken the entrance exam and can give advice?

Hey RosieC, I'd strongly suggest that you don't take the pre-med program because it is a waste of moeny. Since you have most of the requirements, just review really well and it shouldn't be very hard to pass. Trust me, I lost my touch in sciences (as I did a yr of law) and still passed. The trick? just review all the subjects once again and do the practice questions provided by the Univ. You might just want to do one year of physics and chemistry (organic included) to save all the money and effort....
