I dont want to start a flame war or anything.... just want to put out there what ASUSM has to offer to a prospective student.....
1) Chance to write USMLE
2) clinicals in US
3) Good education (at least i feel)
4) cheap price
5) cheap living
6) all the facilities to help you learn (may not be state of the art but it get the job done - cadavor labs, histo labs, path labs, etc)
7) nice small school environment to study
8) better teacher to student ratio
Now i know that there are a few problems with the school but remember that every school has problems no 1 is perfect.
Now if u want cali or kansas then forget it..... but if u want other states like fl, tx, etc then it may work for u because ASUSM is not disapproved by any state so therefore your application will be a case by case senario.... So its in the same boat as most other Caribbean medschool that dont have Cali approval....
PS: do not talk shit about this school if u have a real question or genuine opinion then you may share..... I dont want a flame off....

1) I am a student,
2) I have been at the Dominica Branch of the School since it started
3) The Aruba campus is now been open for 2 years and the dominica for 8 months
4) yes we have 2 students that passed the USMLE and in rotations - 1 is actually finishing his clinicals soon (7 are gettin rdy to take the Step 1 soon)
5) just to let you know that the school is growing fast and we are gettin a the ex saba dean starting from the Jan. semester... (they say he made SABA what it is and i hope he does the same for us).

For every1 that didnt know ASUSM has a premed program that accepts students straight out of High school.... if you want to get a head start at becoming a Dr. this is a great way to go!!!! and btw its far cheaper than AUA's.....

I heard that the new dean starting in January came to dominica to talk to a few students. This looks positive to me.

With all these positives, why are you looking to transfer to AUC?

Sorry, I didn't get what you said about going to AUC because I'm not a student of ASUM. Hoping to read from you soon. Thanks.

It wasn't towards you. I was writing to What's Up Doc, why he's looking to transfer to AUC (American University of the Caribbean) if ASUM is so great?

Questions i was pm-ed but i thought neeeded to be shared in public!!
hey wat's up with u,
i need to tell u about a few concerns...
1. no WHO recognition
2. loans
without WHO recognition, what is the fate of graduates after completing the medical school? will they be recognised? or what do you think?
About loans, I believe one can find oan from somewhere when it's time to get it..... lol
when are u going back home (USA) and how was your exams??
1) WHO, has not been updated in a while and from my knowledge the Dominican Medical Bord & ASUSM have sent in all the paper-work for ASUSM to be approved by who!!
2) Loans for canadians is no problem as the school is RBC approved and now they are working on US loans!!
3) Yes they will be, WHO has stated that it is not a recognization body but rather a directory of School around the world and personally i think we will have WHO by the end of next semster (before any1 get thier MD)..
I think 20th i am going home -lol- i dont know yet i have 2 more exams!!!
