Hi...

So In my junkie/ fiend mania of ensuring that I have the absolute best books - of which there is no one all inclusive. I have been able to get a hold of what I consider to be the best IM handbook available. I came across it several months ago... being called The Consult Manual of Internal Medicine by Rosen. Listen to me when I tell you that this is pretty much all you'll need for both the rotation and any IM specific exam. It covers everything, going from the basics to the in depth. A book to be mastered.

With that said... I simply dont want to go and buy all the available Peds handbooks (as I did with IM) just to finally come up with the best one. There seem to be far fewer choices. So I was wondering if anyone can steer me in the right direction as to the best 2 or 3 available????

Thanks.

Try Harriet Lane for peds, its a little thick but its the de facto standard everyone uses and it has almost everything...

Hi & Thanks for responding. I have had several classmates tell me about The Harriet Lane Handbook. I will definately get it. Do you have any personal reccs for others? I feel that lots of times, people simply use whats been used rather than take the time to compare. I found huge differences among the IM handbooks... and quite frankly, did not like The Washington Manual at all. Even though it has a long history of being THE book. There were actually several handbooks that were much better in many ways. Anyway, thanks.

Harriet Lane is a must get. It's not excellent by any stretch of the imagination... but it's the best available to date. I did end up getting the Consult Manual of Internal Medicine. Nice... very very nice.
