View Full Version : Questions about All Saints Univ.

When some of the big schools were less than 1 year old, people were bashing them and advising students not to go there. People were just saying "don't go to a Caribbean school to study medicine".

I'm sure there would be stages when some of the big Universities were not listed with WHO or IMED and some of them did not even have cadavers. Despite all the negative things and discouragements from people, why did students go ahead attending these schools??

Schools that were bashed 6 years ago, why are these schools doing okay today? How come they now have students doing residency programmes? How come they are listed with WHO/IMED today? Why is it that nearly all the States in the US have approved them? Why is it that some of us think that people want to finish medical schools and work ONLY in the USA? Why don't we think that people might decide to go somewhere else? USA is not the only country in the world. Why shouldn't I go and work in South Africa or China or India? People can go anywhere they like.

Why is it that we can not give good and wise advise to these young schools? Why is it that some of us do not encourage competition? Why do some of us forget that when we graduate and decide to establish our own clinics, we will reap what we have sown? Why do we forget that when we establish our own clinics, we won't have over 2000 patients within the first week of operation? How many of us know that our own clinics in future have to be nutured to grow and expand gradually? How many of us believe that when we were 5 years old, we didn't know half of the knowledge we have today? How many of us know that we learn through experiences, failures and successes? How many people can signify that they have never failed before? How many people can say they have never started something new before?

What makes a man/woman? When you fail, rise up and move ahead. If you don't rise up to move forward, then you are a failure. Don't stay where you are, keep moving. If you have made a mistake, know that anybody can make mistakes and try to avoid that kind of mistake in future and move on with your life.

Why is it that some of us are always ready to bash a new school like All Saints? None of the big schools in Caribbean island is perfect. When you graduate, you are still an IMG even if you have attended ROSS. Why is it that some of us can not just think of posting ideas on how the management teams can improve their Schools? Why do some of us think that we are perfect or everything should be perfect at the begining?

Please, let us tolerate healthy competition and let us post constructive criticisms that school management teams can use to improve their schools. I'm pleading. The management teams are also learning, they are human beings and they want to hear from us. Do you think that when you post something, it will be useful for the school administration? I advise new schools to be focused, try your best and give students the necessary stuff, some students want to finish and go to other countries (not everybody wants to go to the US), know what your students want, make sure the counsellors are doing their work, don't focus everything in this world on USMLE for God's sake and please wave aside what some people post on this forum if you find something irrelevant.

I'm very sorry if anybody is offended by this posting, it's just that it worries me when I read some of the things that people post on this forum, we need to change our attitudes.

Thank you.
