are licensed DO physicians having any problems getting jobs at hospitals or setting up their private practice (establishing clientel)?

for example, suppose that in a given time period a hospital is hiring 10 new general surgeons. and 15 MDs apply and 2 DOs apply. will all the jobs go to MDs? can hospitals do that?

in other words, are there licensed DOs who are unemployed because MDs are favored?

You will never find a board-certified physician (MD or DO) w/o a job...period. Most doctors have the problem of too many patients. Some high profile private practice groups or academic settings my prefer a "harvard-type" pedigree...but other then that all that matters is that you are a competant physician that has proved him/herself through residency.

Would it be hard to find a residency if you go to a new DO school.......one that is admitting its first class in August 2007?

Their Osteo programs are known as TUN and TUC.

Nevada/Cali

They seem to be accreditated by AOA and State Dept of edu.

Beyond that, no clue, i dont think it would hurt your chances of getting a residency.

Yeah, thats the one Im talking about. Shouldnt it be somewhat easier to get in to if its new? There is a large pool of qualified students trying to get in to all of the schools. New or not, if they are in the US they are accredited or in preapproval status or they would be closed by the govt. Read more at American Osteopathic Association (http://www.osteopathic.org/index.cfm?PageID=sir_college)

Yeah. I know. Just felt like asking.

There is still going to be a lot of competition. Better have a great portfolio.

You may have a problem practicing in some other countries though!

hardy har har.

- DO/MD are high in demand.

There are DO and MD majority hospitals. DO hospitals have fewer MDs. MD hospitals have more MDs but probably dont care much, but there could be some discrimination SOMEWHERE.

Look at the career/jobs page of a hospitial and see for yourself. Also if it makes you feel better ask them.

Plethora of other reasons too. Well... not that many but a suitable amount.

-No clue.
I would have to assume it is based on Merit.

-no, cause you can find a job somewhere else.

my 2 cents
