I am a nature enthusiast and can’t wait to explore the beautiful Nature Island. I was wondering if there are any fellow enthusiasts who have gone on any of the hikes or adventure tours. Can you recommend what type of equipment to bring with me to the island for such trips? I have recently engaged in backpacking and have some gear; with the limited space we have with our luggage I was wondering what would be most useful. Are any of the trips overnight? Has anyone brought camping gear, or is it mostly day trips? Which trails or tours are the best?
One of my most-used items was my Columbia sandals. The other great footwear for dry excursions is Vasque light-weight low boots...they look like athletic sneakers, but are better. Definitely bring natural fibers to wear, as it is hot and humid.
For a mild to moderate hike do visit the Emerald Pool and Trifalger Falls. For a more hard-core experience try the Valley of Desolation and Boiling Lake.
I never did any overnight experiences...only day tours. My guide source info is probably outdated, so current students will have to help with that one.
Dominica is the fifth diving capital of the world, and it features a great 1200 to 1600 vertical wall of coral on the southwest coast. Mid-west coast has a great dive with lots of bubbles, hence the name Campaigne Bay. There are lots of great reefs up and down the west coast, but stay away from the east coast, as the current, rocks, and waves are dangerous. If your not up for a deep dive, at least try snorkel gear.

The East coast or windward side of most islands is very dangerious - High waves and wind. You can be turned in to shark chum in a few minutes. Only go with experienced divers who know the waters and dive sites.
