A pt has been exposed to poison ivy several times in the past and usually develops a very severe skin reaction. A count of his T cells reveals a normal level of these cells. What would you give this pt to diminish the possibility of a delayed-type hypersensitivity reaction?
1) Gamma interferon
2) IL-5
3) IL-2
4) IL-8
5) IL-10
Ans #5: I would give him IL-10. This cytokine is produced by TH type 2 to inhibit TH type 1 cells. Helper T cells type 1 stimulates cell mediated immunity and delayed hypersensitivity reaction. TH2 cells stimulate B cells production of antibodies (humoral immunity).
