Greetings Doctor,
I am curious to know if there are any FMG's who hold academic positions at universities across North America. From my research, being a FMG is not a huge barrier to being an MD, but what if you aspire to be a professor as well?

One of the moderators here, stephew, teaches at Harvard. I'm sure there are others.

There are a gazillion. Ok, I may be exaggerating. But there are plenty AND they are often in a position to help you get residency. I had some inside help getting in at my institution and it is Ivy League. If you have some ideas of where and what you want to do residency, you can check out FREIDA which will give you links to departments. THen you can look at the department faculty roster which almost ALWAYS lists the med school of each professor and voila! there they are...

I know of at least one guy from AUC who is faculty at Indiana University SOM. I think they may have an SGU person there too, but I am not sure

from what i heard and know, once you graduate from med school and finish residency, noone really will care which school you came from. and if you know your stuff, and are qualified for a academic position, then it shoudnt be that much different than a grad from an US school

don't pass USMLE, or plan not to take it.
I mean doing a postdoctorate and becoming an MD/PHD.

I don't think that Soara1 was "assuming" that these two are the same. Stephew is NOT Dr. .... is a graduate of SGU, practices RADONC....and teaches at Harvard.....do a search....you will find her.
(or she could just pop up and tell you herself.....)

I think your assuming that .
Nope, I'm pretty sure I meant what I said.
The moderator of the SGU section of Value MD goes by the name of stephew. She is an SGU grad and lectures at Harvard.

personal names and contact information are NOT permitted on vmd. There are many folks in university positions from offshore schools (more from the better ones). many dont seek to go into academic medicine however.
and actually you dont need to be an offshore grad to be a mod here.
Yes an am in academic medicine at harvard but according to some users
-have no life
-have contributed nothing to the world
- live in a basement
- am an insensitve person
-all of the above
so take it all for what its worth.
