how is the nbme scored? what should your range be to know that you are ready for the exam?

there is alot of speculation on this subject as to the nbme's accuracy as a predictor, but most agree that you should score within 10 pts on the real thing (on the 3 digit scale) of the predicted nbme score... the nbme forms give you the predicted equivalent.. so take it and see where you fall :) they are well worth the $$.. most take form 1/2 at least.

forms 3 and 4 typically seem a little harder, they are the new forms, which have longer questions, and are more representative of the exam. but don't be discouraged by a 500 on form 1, and a 460 on form 3 after 1 more month of intense study. you actually may have gone up in your knowledge. just add a few more points to your score, because you took a harder form.
