q) A 70-year-old woman named Michelle Rodriguez initiates chemotherapy for metastatic breast cancer. She develops severe nausea during her chemotherapy. a) This is a classic Step 1 drug. Pick c, Ondansetron to control the vomiting and nausea. This drug is a selective inhibitor of one type of the 5-hydroxytryptamine (synonym serotonin) receptor, which is present both peripherally on vagal nerves and centrally in the chemoreceptor trigger zone of the area postrema of the brain. Bismuth helps w/ nausea and vomiting, but NOT w/ that assoc. w/ chemo.
