For all of those who are/will be going to Ross…do we have to set up our own clinical rotations? Or are we helped with this when the time comes? Are we guaranteed a clinical rotation by the time we get there?
I heard a rumor today from a colleague that some peeps can’t get into a clinical rotation and just spend their time shadowing doctors and begging for a rotation of sorts….but you know how rumors can be…
If you can, please clarify.
No rude comments please.
Thanks

No, you do not have to set up your own core rotations as those are arranged for and scheduled by Ross. As far as electives, they will also help you set them up but what electives you take really is up to you so most students just set those up at Ross affiliated hospitals on their own. They get exactly what they want when they want it that way. You MAY, however, set up your own if you wish.

Yes, they do give you core rotations - however, you are not guaranteed all the cores in your third year, nor are you guaranteed them back to back - so this leaves many many gaps in your schedule -Now mind you, any gap in your 15 weeks clinical semester more than 4 weeks makes you non-elegible for financial aid. I called up my advisor 2 weeks ago and asked him how the school handles electives, he told me that, you have to call all the hospitals ask them if they have medical student electives, if they allow Ross students and then you have to set up the rotation yourself. He told me to just call him and let him know the dates.

This thread is for people who are going to Ross. Please do not respond if you are going to another school. Comments such as these help no one.
To everyone else who has responded: thanks for the honest replies. Be assured that they are GREATLY appreciated!

You will not have trouble having cores sheduled. But you may not get it when you want it...you may be placed on waitlist. But most students just fill in the time with electives...(which is a nice break from cores; study time)
Electives are easy to schedule...although if you want to do them at top US schools...you may have to do the "paperwork" on your own.

Yes but only at non-affiliates.

No idea where you got that idea. Yes, you CAN set up any or ALL of your rotations on your own at non-Ross affiliated hospitals as long as they are ACGME sites and are Ross approved.
