there shouldn't be "you" in the subject. I don't know how it got in there. i can't delete it either.
according to my inside source, there are about 480 students + 80 scholars.
what are scholars? bascially, the school thinks that they are either too smart or too stupid, they pay the school the same amount of money, and those 80 students don't have to go to classes at all, they study at home. watching recorded videos. then what is the purpose of going to dominica at all. they could have just watched those videos in the states.
and the current first semester students will probably use the Annex building till 3rd semesters when plenty of students (probably 100 or more) will fail or transfer, then that class can be moved back to main campus again. after all, the biggest classroom - classroom 6 can only hold about 300 or so students.

OK we need to get rid of this clown.
Official 1st semester enrollemt...364. That includes everyone in scholars and in the regular class.
Evidently your inside source isn't really on the inside is it?

Oh, really? are you a first semester yourself?
If there are only 364 including scholars, then the classroom 6 should fit the 300 or so students easily. why would they put all the students in annex which the school has to provide huge buses daily? that doesn't make economical sense.
the school has to provide huge buses daily?
um...there is NOT a huge bus on the whole island.

For the record, that 364 is smaller than the entering medical class at SGU which is an even 400 according to their website.

The videos cannot be watched back home. I already asked that question. They say it is blocked due to a conflict of interest with american medical school, since you are going to a foreign school, you cannot take medical school classes in american soil, besides the student have to be there for Anatomy Lab.

Dude,
the reason why the 1st sem are in the annex is cuz 2nd is in classroom 6, 3rd is in classroom 4, and 4th is in classroom 5...so there's no room for the incoming class on campus.

300 + students for a school that does not have the study room for less then half of that, many were forced to study at home, why pay for ross tuition at all________

What school do you know of which has library space to accomadate every student enrolled? That is similar to people who say that the on campus gym should be large enough for everybody to work out at once without waiting for the machines. The library has study space, classroom 2 is open study space, classroom 1 is open study space, and I have heard they now keep the classrooms 4/5/6 open for study. There should be plenty of room in which to study...not to mention your own apartment.

If this is the case, then I'd have to concur with Mitch.

There is MORE than enough study space. If for some reason you can't find a place in the library(unlikely) then 4,5,6 are open.

so can anyone from 1st semester tell me the exact number of the students in your class?
why is an EXACT count sooooo necessary for you? From what has been said on this (and other numerous) threads, its big - in the neighborhood of 350-450. Will it make that much of a difference to know the class is 342 vs 356? Really??

well, someone in this thread claimed that the 1st semester class only has 364 students, but according to my inside source, the class is about 480 students.
it is a fact that Ross admits way too many students, so it will have to fail a lot of students. otherwise the biggest classroom - classroom 6 won't be able to fit all of them under one roof.
now nobody talks about the class size because the first semesters are ashamed they are segragated in the annex and will have to compete much harder to remain at ross by next fall when they move to the main class to make room for an even bigger class next september.
and they won't even get any credit if they transfer, because all of their classes are divided into two semesters. they have to start all over again.
so it will have to fail a lot of students.
Ross fails nobody students fail. it is nobodys fault but their own. i have said numerous times here that iof anything, Ross passes too many students who are not quite prepared to move on but get moved on anyways.
remember, all the schools in the caribbean accept people who have been determined to be "not capable" of handling a medical curriculum by US schools. if you check out a school and everyone passes, steer clear, as they are obviously a diploma mill (defined as a school which gives out diplomas, with no real education or requirement to demonstrate knowledge of the required subjects) you come to the caribbean, your goal is to prove that the US schools where wrong when they rejected you.

it just just a fact that Ross admits way too many students, so it will have to fail a lot of students. otherwise the biggest classroom - classroom 6 won't be able to fit all of them under one roof.
so exactly how does Ross fail students- is the scoring set on a mean and standard dev, so that 1.5 SD below the mean is failing? From what I've gathered, Ross has a set % for a failure cut off. If that is the case, then it is no ones fault but the students' if they fail- I am assuming that the exams at Ross are objective MC test and if you miss a certain number of question - you fail. If the test are sujective (like say grades in clinicals), please let me know.
If the scoring is number -based then Ross can't make someone fail- if it is mean based, then that's a different story.

mylifeatdominica, I am a first semester student (sitting in the fishbowl as i am writing this) and i confirm that the Fall 2006 class is 364 students.
The Annex seats 400 and there are LOTS of empty seats during lecture (i know people watch them online but most people still go to class).

maybe that happened in your class. let me tell you, ross changes its failing policy as quickly as a baby changes diapers.
one semester, they accepted only about 150 students, this time, they accepted 364 students. so they can't possibily fail the same percetage for those different classes. they have to keep the shareholders' pockets full of money.
my class started at 296. if you fail at Ross, it is NOT the fault of Ross. it is just further proof that the US schools were right about you. you are given a chance by Ross(and yes, along with that, they make a buck)to prove the US schools wrong. people (well, those who failed and didnt have the guts to admit to their shortcomings) used to always say that Ross failed people on purpose to make extra money, but basic math proves that to be a foolish statement. my first semester we had 22 poeople fail. of those 22, only 10 returned. so though Ross made an extra semester of tuition on 10, they lost 9 semesters of tuition on each of 12 people who didnt return. consistently, that ratio continued in every class and every semester. they make more money by just passing everybody. but they have standards. like i said, they do pass people at times who should not be passed.

To be honest, I do not understand why student make such a big deal about the class size or the fact that Ross is being constantly accused of "failing" students!!!! It is a med school guys and not a 11th grade bio!!! It fully depends on you.....come to classes, do your work, less partying, and it is possible to do anything!!!! And if, after all that, somebody does not pass...it means that that person does not have the mental capacity to be a doctor no matter how much he or she physically wants it!!!!
People with lower gpa should be thankful that Ross gives them a chance to achieve their dream.....some had a reason for their lower gpa, but some were not capable of reaching a higher one!!!! In med school you are starting from scratch, so we should not complain, but embrace!!
Peace!!!!! ;)

DeVry Inc. Issues Correction to Ross University Enrollment: Financial News - Yahoo! Finance (http://biz.yahoo.com/bw/061102/20061102006193.html?.v=1)
I'm not one that cares about the class size, but I thought some of you might be interested in this article. I'm not certain, but I believe this article quotes combined enrollment figures for the Med and Vet schools.

How big are the Vet. classes? If, say, they're between 100-200 students, it means that the current M.D. class is between 450-550 students.....
