Ditch JL,

Shreveport's EM month begins with 3 days of much needed lecture and workshops (suturing, chest tubes, intubation, LP's, Cspine clearance) used during the remainder of the month. After those days, your off to the ED. You work a week of nights, a week of evenings, and a week of days. All shifts are 8hrs. You also do an ambulance ride along as one of your shifts. The attendings are all great and teach when they have an opportunity. Very cool and helpful residents. Very little pediatric exposure in the ED. Lot's of Trauma ... I was suprised. My last night I had a guy that had a new hobby of repeling down buildings. For some strang reason he thought drinking and not connecting his rope to the 4 story building would be okay. Needless to say, he was wrong. Broke every long bone in his body ... open femur fx. You know the drill.

Shreveport itself is not that exciting of a city outside of work. However, LA is home and Shreveport is 3 hrs from my home so I was extremely happy with it. Good golf course ... Old Oaks (Hal Sutton Course). Fitness World for your gym. Superior Grill for ritas and mexican. Pappa's for burger's. Pie Works for pizza. Superior Steakhouse, which is on the new movie "The Guardian," for steaks. Good bit of coffee shops to study.

Hope this helps, PM me if you have anymore specific questions! I think Bo and JR are rotating there this month.

Yoda,

One more wise crack outta you and I'll revoke my free housing finders fee. I can institute a nice charge on all the hookups that have gone your way. By the way, Shea's new roomate likes beer. Wait a minute he REAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLY likes beer.

Peace,

For those interested, the EM rotation here kicks ***. Learning loads and the staff is very cool. No pointless pimping, just the standard "What do you want to do next and why?" And if you can't answer or give an answer that would, say, kill someone, they don't make you feel like a choad for being a newbie. At least to your face, anyway. The city of Shreveport is OK. Although, everything closes down on Sunday, which is annoying.
