As far as University of Tasmania goes, you're going to need to have pretty good grades in English, Chemistry, Physics, and Maths (those are the requirements) and a really good personal statement. To increase your chances of acceptance, send in some quality letters of recommendations. I don't know how they look at students who are currently taking foundations studies. However, I do know that if you have started university, you're going to need to obtain at least an honours distinction in your most recent year. If you're a domestic student, they do allocate a few places a year for people who already started university, but realize that the competition is getting tougher with every successive year because they have just recently switched to the new 5 year MBBS program in 2006.
Hope this helps! Goodluck!

What I mean by "quality" is that try to get letters from people who know you, i.e. volunteer place, work, professors, church leader, etc. Remember that letters that praise your character is just as important as ones that praise your academic potential. There is no interview required for UTAS so anything that shows that you're genuinely interested in medicine and helping people in general than that's a huge plus.
