Hi!
Anyone scheduled to begin Psych. rotation on Oct. 16th in Shreveport??
I would be interested to hear about anyone's previous experiences at Brentwood Hospital. Do we need to bring a stethoscope?? (I wouldn't think so, but you never know!)
What is the weather like in late Oct./early Nov. - the place I am going to stay has a swimming pool - looks great!
What do females wear to clinical - skirts or slacks ?? I imagine the dress would be casual in Psych.

Dr. Johnson certainly did prepare us very well in Psych!!

:p :p :p

it is nice and warm in the day but can get cold in the AM. the rotation is fairly laid back and you really can do as much or as lkittle as you want but it also depends on which doc you are paired with. one has a rigid schedule there and his students were there from 6am to 4pm. i got teamed up with 2 docs, 1 saw pts at different hospitals and clinic, i got to go to 3 hospitals, the medicaid clinic, and even an inpateinet electroconvulsive treatment. the other only saw pts in specific age gropus but we were usually done by 2pm and i could get some reading done.

build a rapport with your doc, make his/her life easy by showing up early having all the charts ready etc and they will let you do more stuff and as you will see with all other rotations your experience and how much you see and do is highly dependant on the team you are with.

It's better to overdress than underdress. Weather will fluctuate from hot to cold, be prepared to get sick. The pool most likely won't be heated either.

You are allowed to request a doc you want before you go so PM me if you want a good doc. The weather doesn't really get cold until Thanksgiving in LA. RROD is right in making the docs life easier and preparing the charts and pts before the doc arrives but most have erratic schedules and arrive when they feel like it there. One may show up at 6:30 am and the next day go at 8:30am. You are usually finished by 11am depending on what doc you get. I got the doc that kept us there until 4pm everyday. Any more Q's, let me know.

Mmm....Ralph and Kacoo's over in Bossier....good seafood. And you're only about 3 hours from Baton Rouge where you can catch a LSU football game. Home games are, quite literally, a religious experience. 100,000 drunk cajuns make for a good time. Bring the doc LSU football tickets and you'll be in like Flint.
