Anyone know?
The internet speed seems pretty decent. I haven't noticed any significant delays in the time it takes for websites to load or anything like that.

A common misconception. That 54 or 11 for wireless 802.11b has absolutely nothing to do with your internet connection speed unless you're on some kind of crazy T3 or optical line that can reach such speeds.
That is for networking between two computers e.g. if you and I have wireless g cards and we network our computers, we can possibly transfer files between our machines at that speed.
But for internet connection purposes where the fastest connections with TM RoadRunner service in the US for example is rated at something like 3-10 MB/sec (I have no idea but I've seen that figure thrown around somewhere) you can see that even having a 11 MB rated 802.11b card would be sufficient.
The max download I got in St. Vincent on campus (before everyone showed up) was around 300 Kb/sec. So you can see that that's a far, far cry from the 54 Mb/sec my card is rated at.

Well put, Saora1.
Campus internet slows down to a crawl during the day (in the library where I soak up as much free air conditioning as possible).

Go to ::Cable & Wireless (Grenada) Ltd.:: (http://www.candw.gd) and click the link for the speed test. When I am wirelessly conencted to firefly, my "download speed" is about 1500 kbps, and "upload speed" is around 450 kbps. In contrast, I asked a friend of mine in FL to give the same speed test a shot on his cable internet (nothing fancy, his $40/mo home service) and his dl speed was 4.8 Mbps and upload around 500kbps.
My C&W connection is the x512 pkg. Actual speed test values are 380 dl and 130 ul. The fastest i've ever downloaded from a website here at home was about 80 kbps. Usually between 40 and 50.

it's however fast you can afford it to be. I think you can get a 1000Kb line for like $1,200 ec a month or something like that, it's supposed to be for bussiness only.
