I think you need the paper. They don't do e-tickets there.

Yes, they do e-tickets there. Just like others, i had no prob entire time I was there. I didn't even show the printed thing, just showed him my US passport and that was it. They can pull all the information. Again, no problems.

That airport is so lovely, it is right next to a never ending brook, and the parking lot is next to the entrance. the building was well designed, they utilize lots of natural light. and they treat everyone equally, there is no special waiting rooms for special people. and it has a nice special gift shop for that special someone back home.

Hmm..thats pretty cool. I dont know how much the power grid has improved on the island...BUT you do know if the power goes out (which has only happened a couple times in the past 20 years....) , then you may be in trouble. I stress the may because it does not necessarily mean you will lose your flight. However, paper tickets can be manually endorsed to allow travel on other flights. You may also be able to present that paper ticket to another airline in the case of a delay, and they may be able to accept. Although e-tickets do have many more advantages in the "real world"... I am talking about JUST in Dominca, because when the power goes, so do their computers. Once you get back to the states (and puerto rico), all you need is your itinerary.

But again, correct me if I'm wrong...I know when I left, they were upgrading the airport and all....and maybe they added a generator? But one of the lessons I have learned after being on that island.... ALWAYS CARRY "INSURANCE" , and I dont like saying it..but you cant trust what the islanders tell you. I mean they mean well, but their idea of "being on time" is quite different than ours. They may not care if their flight gets delayed a day or two. So it doesnt hurt to be extra careful on that rock. If you have the option.....do try and get a paper ticket. But again, hopefully things are much smooother and different now...
And keep in mind...that travelling from Dominica is alot more hectic than flying to. There are a lot of students trying get out, and open seats are probably non-existant, so it will be hard to reschedule if it comes to that.

But just out of curiosity...what airline are you flying out with?

People generally only use Melville Hall Airport rather than Canefield. Canefield is generally considered not too safe for aircraft other than very small ones. The runway is longer and safer at Melville. Have they installed the new lights at Melville yet? Once they do, it may facilitate your travel, because right now unless you leave your home town very early in the morning, you often have to overnight in San Juan. Once Melville gets lighting, airlines may open up later flights to Dom.
