These are notes that you make and write into your First Aid book.
Good luck on your exam, and congratulations to passexam!

I guess we read the post differently. I assumed the poster was an ESL-er, and presumed there were actual addenda to First Aid out there somewhere.

its an observation that some people want everything handed to them.....FA is updated every year. So many people want to know where they can get the secret answers to the nbmes.....maybe we could just get people to take the exams for us

whom am i making fun of? ....FA is updated every year. So many people want to know where they can get the secret answers to the nbmes.....maybe we could just get people to take the exams for us :rolleyes:Actually due to the publishing cycle - FA is about a year 1/2 to two years out of date with the current exam. They also had more errors with factual knowledge in the 2006 edition than any of the previous editions. Kaplan medical books are about five years out of date with the current exam questions.
The current exam - is now more weighted towards biochemistry - genetics and molecular biology. Than in previous years where it was more weighted towards pathology. Many of the questions are worded so you really need to understand the information and make a decision with pretty minimal information.
About biochemistry , I think MUA-N does not even have a biochemistry course when I was looking on their website at sylibuses. I would not use FA as "the" resource for exam study. Many reasons - it is just not complete and also the structure does not present information in a way that will help you answer integrated questions that are the core of the exam.
So when we hear some one say can I use FA for the USMLE - we know the person has done zip - nada - zero research to prep for the exam.
So yea - they are sort of the butt of anyone's joke. In two hours of serious reading on this website you can get many resources, questions, tips and guides to review books and how to use them to successfully pass the USMLE. It is then up to you to do the work - All tests are about recall, judgement and understanding.

After I took my exam, I sat down and basically went through first aid and remembered 85%+ of my exam.....Almost every single question i remembered was in FA.....its a great source
To save you the hassle of searching, 7/7/05 I posted this
so I just wanted to let everyone know that I took the step yesterday.....i guess i can say the breakdown of my exam but i cant really talk about content bc they've busted some people for that.....Study everything!
First off about 1/3 of my exam was pharm. straight up pharmacology, there were a lot of questions where they asked for drug names but did not give the drug of choice. You had to know interactions, MOA's, etc. I had some questions where there were 2 drugs that could be used to treat it. I had quite a bit of immuno, histo (descriptons), molecular, biostats, epidemiology.
I had less genetics, micro, path, physio, anatomy.....
I had a lot of images with quite a few of them not having much in the stem of the question. you had to name a structure
I had quite a few "what would you say to the pt" Always remember do the least harm to the pt, pt's wishes matter most, except when it comes to a child.
I also had 2 questions twice but in different ways.....one of those i narrowed the answer down to 2 options so i chose both answers.
Dont neglect the small stuff.....I was hoping for an exam with a lot of Path bc that is my strong point and i was shocked with the amount of molecular bio
It was not an easy exam. A lot of my friends had taken theirs and told me to go for it bc they had easier exams with a lot of path.....it was a thinking exam, i only had 3-5 regurgitation questions per block and those were straight up Golj@n. During the first block i was like i hope this isnt going to get any harder.....then i was thinking where are my easy blocks. I think my last block was maybe a little easier but i probably was delirious by then as well.
I dont think i gave any unfair advantage by posting this.....its not my intent to. I just hear everyone saying study path and you'll be fine.....not the exam I took. This exam encompassed everything from basic sciences
The point im trying to make is everyone always thinks their exam is harder than previous.....but 1 year ago i posted how my exam was barely any path.....mostly pharm and molecular and biochem
The test isnt changing dramatically, you just happened to have a test like mine
For step 2, my fiancee had mostly cardio.....i had almost none.....luck of the draw

...Not saying it is bad - I have FA 2004 and 2006. So I am using it. I am saying to use other resources also. I myself like more questions than the outline format of FA.

FA is the outline.....you have to be able to integrate it.....for step 1 FA rocked and for step 2 UW rocked
