Any ideas on why you might have been rejected?

Mango, have you taken the MCAT? Also is your science gpa above 3.0? Those are definately two things they consider heavily. I hate to throw out stats but from my own experience and from what the school told me, if your gpa is above 3.0 and stronger in the sciences, you have a decent chance even without MCAT. But the rest of the application needs to shine(research, clinical experience, volunteering(not just medicine related), etc). With your gpa though, I'd say you need decent MCAT scores upper 20's to be safe. Anyways, I hope that helps.
Don't worry about it Mango...
Lots of people get rejected from SABA, honestly its normally for their own good. SABA, is hard really hard and a little cut throat. I go to MUA, SABA's sister school eaach semester we have a couple of people that have failed out of SABA that are transfered over to here.
I have to ask you where you just rejected or was your application forwarded to MUA? Thats how many of the students here end up on Nevis. Over all MUA-Nevis is a little cheaper, but a nicer island, and unless you are trying to go to California its makes little difference where you are educated. There should be time to apply to the next class starting in January.
Drop me a line if you would like to..

Did you apply for January? Because Its pretty late to apply for that term. I applied very late for Sep and got rejected, so I reapplied for Jan and got right in. As the term fills up it becomes more competitive to get the remaining spots. You might try applying for may or even sep 07 if they will let you.

Saba is becoming more and more competitive these days. Take the MCAT and prove to them that you can handle the basic science load. There is nothing MORE depressing than getting accepted AND THEN failing out. That's not only more depressing, but quite more expensive.
My class just started last week and it's no joke. They give you such volume of material that the only thing it allows you is 8 hours of sleep, and an hour and a half for food/workout/etc. Others may have to study more or less depending on your style, but chances are greater than many would have to study about 3-4 hours a night + weekends. You're school until about 5 PM every night.
Saba's attrition rate is much lower than many/most schools and due to this, competition among applications tend to be higher. We're looking at 60-70 students per semester vs. 150-200. So far, we haven't lost a person in our class.
Best of luck to ya.

I'd sure hope your class is still complete given the short period of time.

Saba rejected me too, but my file was transferred to MUA, and I will have an interview this week. Both of my gpa is a little over 3.0, excellent LORs, clinical & Volunteer exp.
They told me that my credentials were competitive, (but not enough), as they are getting more and more qualified applicants each year (especially after their Cali approval-I guess). Anyway, MUA seems to be a good option too, as it's modeled after Saba, and has a proven track record, yes and they do have NY.
Good luck!

Actually, a semester or so ago, a few students didn't even make it out of the airport!! They arrived, took one look at Saba from the view from the airport and went back home. Bwahahahaha!!
True story.
And every semester loses a few students after the first block exam. Usually 3 weeks into it.

st matthews doesn't cost 15000, the island is a little expensive, u just have to cut down a lot on cost and bring as much as u can on the island and u'll be fine. i like being here

tuition $8900 + drorm $ 4300 + health insurance fee $475 + administrative fee (cant remember exact amount) = but it all equals approximately 15,000 per semester
i got the letter from saba today, n they didnt accept me. they also mentioned abt mua, and said i have to contact with mua first then saba will transfer my application to them. but how should i tell mua?---> " i got rejected by saba, so please tell them to send u my forms." ???!!!! and i m thinking if saba tell every applicant rejected by them to apply mua. or they suggest that only if the applicant really got the potential to be accepted by mua??

The cut off for saba is a 3.0..since your GPA is under 3.0 you would have to take the MCAT to prove that you have the potential as well as have strong recommendation letters.

Indeed I do :) You can personally confirm this by walking to the administration office on the second floor of the school and asking them.

The solution seems simple, then. Take a few serious classes and bring up the GPA. Show them you have turned over a new leaf and that you won't quit.
Or, you could quit. :shudder:

I am in undergrad and never get that much sleep...
And when i was in architecture program i had only time to sleep 3-4 hr a night at best...
Saba or not this is a MED SCHOOL and it's normal you need to study your brain off.

Call Gardner and ask them specifically what you need to do to strengthen your app. (Sounds like you already have and they suggested MCAT). Take the MCAT. If you do well, it will make you attractive to many schools. Stay in touch with Saba. Let them know just how much you want to go there and how hard you will work (but don't whine).
If Saba JUST WILL NOT not accept you, MUA is a good alternative (I've worked with some pretty good MUA folks). The island is bigger and the tuition is lower, but the curriculum is the same and the clinicals are pretty much at the same places. As far as telling them you weren't accepted at Saba - they know the drill and they won't hold it against you.
In the end, just don't worry. If you keep working, you will get to where you want to be.
Best of Luck!

saba has gotten pretty competitive now b/c of their Cali approval. I wouldn't bother applying wihout at least a 3.3

well, i don't know about that, there are people in my semester (sept. 06) that have gpas lower than 3.3. but that being said, their mcats are relatively high. just apply and find out. worst case scenario is you get rejected and lose 50 bucks. good luck.

I don't agree. And $50 is a small sacrifice for a potential career opportunity. Apply and find out, not much to lose and lots to gain.

I also disagree. I got in with a 3.2. Applying is the only way to find out. All of our opinions on here really mean nothing. Good luck.

Right, if I were you I'd apply yesterday. What's $50? What's the worst that could happen? If you get rejected they'd just say improve things and re-apply, or offer to forward the application to MUA. Go for it...it's not like U.S. med school where the application process can take 18 months.

Reapply. Go for it! Apply to MUA also as a backup plan.
Make sure to have your story straight in case they ask for an explanation, and try not to worry too much about the $750 lost. Yeah, I probably wouldn't be too happy about losing out on $750, but I'd reapply anyway.
Personally, my medical education is more important, and the $750 is small potatoes compared to the 200 grand plus you'll owe when it's all said & done.
