Hello, I am currently will be entering my freshman year to obtain a Bachelors in Biology. I was registered to take "Intro to Psych" and was just wondering if I should keep this class and take "Intro to Biology" next semester or any other biology class. If I keep Intro. to psych would it make a diff? or should I change the class and start taking Biology asap?
Thankyou

First off, let me say that in about 99% of the schools, intro to psych is a class you could probably use your butt to scratch in the answers for your test and still do well in. Actually, that's a little how med school psych is as well, but that's just my personal opinion.
A general (or intro) bio class is a class you'll absolutely need to get into any med school.

Take your pre-requisites that you need for pre-med...assuming that is what you want to do.
After that, take WHATEVER class you want to take! Arts&Crafts, hamburger-eating, or beer drinking classes...whatever. Take whatever classes make you happy....just do well in them.

hey guys...for all of you considering foreign med schools cuz they accept straight out of high school, i think its a brilliant plan cuz i myself had been planning on leaving america the beautiful for an indian med education. Heres the catch...a lot of ppl have helped me realize that stuff like manipal n the twinning program n other foreign schools do not offer you all your money's worth. we dont know what changes time will bring. Although the schools assure us that getting a residency in the states is common and easily obtained, we dont know if that will still be the case four, five, six yrs from now. n then you have the internet issue, ok...there is no good net access in India unless you live at the IT companies headquarters or something. After reading a lot of posts on this forum, i have changed my mind about going abroad just to finish my education early. Guys, there are a number of six yr programs right in the United States. A list can be obtained via google search and at AAMC's website. I have decided that i will apply there instead. I can almost imagine those manipal professors being subjective about grading their students. Medicine is hard enough anyway, why make it harder by going somewhere strange and uncomfortable. I think the wise choice would be to spend n extra yr here but still get the quality food, AC/heat, objective and professional professors, health, and supportive environment that can be found at a good canadian or U.S. school. Dont get me wrong, indian schools are great, and so is the country...but i would think twice before deciding where i put my parents' hard earned money. Also, you can get a work/study option here. Who knows what the future holds, i feel that staying in the United States for med is a safer decision when it comes down to getting yourself accredited and landing a decent residency position. by the way, those indian roaches are HUGE n the lizards are like pets in the house....eeewww n they multiply. the hot water tank on the roof is creepy. i guess im spoiled, but im still wise. anyone wishing to obtain more info on six yr programs offered by US schools, you can PM me n i'll try to help you out. Howard University in DC has one, so does a uni in Ohio n New Jersey. n many programs are non binding...n for those brave souls out there who wish to apply ivy league...cornell undergrad can be finished early and one can thus go to med school early...i know a cornell student who finished his bachelors early n had enough time to land the MD/PHD slot at cornell's med school...although he was a bit of a snob.
anyhow, see you guys
i hope this helps
