Hi All,

Just asking current and past students if you or anyone you know have been able to complete any rotations (cores or electives) in Canada. I suppose this relates more to elective rotations. (Gardner office said its possible, but I want to see if any of you actually followed through doing rotations in Canada).

If not, I suppose New York state is the nearest state to Toronto that I can complete my rotations at.

Any comments or input would be valuable.

Cheers.

Hey Jaypes,
I know that it's possible to do residency in Canada, but the chances are very slim, it's difficult to get it here. As for rotations, I don't think it's possible, not sure. I'm also from the Toronto area, I hope i could get a residency spot in Canada or even for electives. I would love to come back here!

I'm from Windsor and I've looked into doing rotations in Canada during your 3rd and 4th year. From what I gather, you can only do your electives (4th year) in Canada. All core rotations have to be done in USA.

I know it’s possible to get a residency position in Canada, but as mentioned many times before, it’s not easy. There is a long process you have to follow and at the end of it you are still not guaranteed anything. However, there are many IMG's coming to Canada and even MUA graduates doing their residency in places like Queens (Kingston, Ontario), Manitoba and Saskatchewan. So in the end, it’s not that its impossible, you just have to work a little bit more.

You can do your electives in Canada; however like residency spots for FMG's, these are hard to get. It helps if you know somebody at the hospital.

Last time I did my research several months ago

The province of ontario had a program (IMG-Ontario) in where they take up to 200 IMG's into Ontario. But then again, nothing is guaranteed because after taking the 3 exams, one still has to compete with local med students for residency....(why does canada have to be so strict ...lol)

There is nobody from MUA doing a residency through Queen's University.

Yes, you are correct. It is SABA which has a grad doing their residency at Queens in Kingston, ON.
