Another patient tells you that the medication for parkinson is giving him high blood pressure, and and papitations.
1- MOA of the drug
2-Why the patient is having those side effects?

L-dopa is the "major" medication given to someone with Parkinson's.. and one of its' mechanism is to increase dopamine which can increase blood pressure; Carbidopa is usually given along with L-dopa.. to increase the bioavailability of L-dopa; Usually the patient would have low blood pressure; I am definitely missing something... what am I missing???? :confused: :rolleyes:

And why you cant give dopamine to this patients?

Dopamine does not cross the blood-brain barrier, and at high doses, it causes low blood pressure;
Blood-Brain barrier--composed of arachnoid, epithelium of choroid plexus, and capillary endothelium...;
