You have a friend that suffers from parkinsons and He says that hes taking an antiviral for parkinson.
MOA for the virus and for the parkinson?

I got this from Berkeley:
It is not fully understood amantadine's mechanism of action, but it's antiviral actions are unrelated to it's antiparkinson effects. It is known that amantadine stimulates CNS dopaminergic response as well as norepinephrine response. Amantadine causes release of dopamine from storage sites and inhibits the reuptake of dopamine, thus producing more dopamine at the synapse, accounting for it's antiparkinson properties.
In a viral cell, amantadine is known to inhibit viral replication simply by blocking the transfer of viral nucleic acid from infected cells into an uninfected host cells. Amantadine is believed to prevent the viral DNA from rupturing the membrane of the infected cell; it essentially confines the viral DNA until the cell is targeted and destroyed by the immune system. The mechanism of how amantadine prevents membrane rupture is unknown (WWW4).
