Propranolol is "prototype" for being the nonselective Beta blocker; the only one that I know...

Beta2 blockers are the asthmatics... therefore Beta1 blockers are the rest and usually for the heart, performance anxiety,... atenolol, metoprolol, dobutamine,...

That is all that I know..

labetalol is a beta blocker...

so does carvedilol which can be used in heart failure

How I remember beta selective
bloquers

you have 1 heart so beta bloquers 1 work in the heart
you have 2 lungs so beta bloquers 2 work in the lungs

selective beta 1 I just remember AMA
Atenolol
Metroprolol
Acebutolol

Beta2-blockers:

1. eye--decreasing acqueous humor (timolol)
2. uterus--relaxation
3. bronchioles--dilation (asthma)
4. skeletal muscles--increase glycogenolysis
5. liver--increase glycogenolysis
6. pancreas--increase insulin secretion

They told us in Kaplan...the general rule is A-M = B1 antag
N-Z = Nonselective B antag
Works for me so far!!! They tend to be "lols"...I believe Dobutamine is an AGONIST...not ANTAG

i've found that the mnemonic in First Aid is very useful for this.....

"A BEAM" = Acebutolol (partial agonist), Betaxolol, Esmolol, Atenolol,
Metoprolol
(these are all Beta 1 specific blockers)

any other beta blocker is non-specific such as propranolol or timolol.
